7 yearsGot two calls within a short time from someone with an Indian accent asking for my meter reading. I told them the first time I live in a flat and can’t even get to the meter. They just cut the call off. Then they rang me again and I was straight with them, said “You’re a scammer from India, no need to bother with meter readings.” Ended the call and blocked the number after that. Definitely dodgy.India7 yearsSomebody rang, said they were from Opus Energy and claimed I'd been billed too much. I told them they weren't my actual energy provider. They insisted they work with my supplier and that there was an overcharge. When I asked who my supplier was, they couldn't answer. I refused to give any meter readings after hearing about Opus switching suppliers without consent through calls like this. Then they rudely told me to get lost and if I wanted to get overcharged that was my problem - and then they just hung up on me!Opus EnergyOpus7 yearsGot a call from someone saying they were from British Gas, asking for a meter reading because they reckoned I’d been overcharged. I asked them a couple of times to confirm the billing address, not the property address, but they couldn’t do it. So obviously, they weren’t really from BG. Bit worrying really, cos they might trick you into agreeing to new contracts just by talking. That could end up costing you loads, so it’s more about staying safe than just being annoyed.British Gas7 yearsGot a call earlier from someone claiming to be with Opus asking for my meter reading. I wasn't buying it and asked if she was really from Opus. She just hung up straight away. So, I rung Opus myself to let them know about the suspicious call.Opus7 yearsGot a call from someone saying they were with Eon and wanted my meter reading. I told them I’m not even with Eon. Then they tried saying it was about an overpayment. I told them I knew they were making it up, and they just hung up on me.Submit Your Own Report (020 3810 3029)
