When I get calls from unknown numbers, I always make sure to ask for the company’s registration number straight away. If they can't give it, it's usually a sign they’re just scammers or dodgy salespeople looking to make a quick buck. I then tell them to buzz off and stop ringing me. If they still don’t provide that info, I go further and ask for their VAT number or their FCA registration number for extra proof. Works like a charm every time!

Whenever you get a call out of the blue, always request a company registration number and be firm about it. Most times, you’ll soon realise the caller’s just a scammer or someone trying to make a quick buck. If they can’t provide that, try asking for their VAT number or their Financial Conduct Authority registration. Usually, they’ll hang up and stop bothering you.
