Today I got a phone call from a bloke with an Indian accent telling me I hadn't paid my taxes and that they'd be coming round soon to arrest me. When I tried to find out more about his supposed role at HMRC, he just hung up on me! Funny thing is, about 10 minutes earlier, a guy who sounded pretty much the same rang my landline asking about a car I’d listed on eBay. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

So, an 80 year woman rang me really upset, saying HMRC were after her for something she hadn’t done. She said she got passed on to another person but then the call just got cut off. I used the 1471 service and the number was 02037697847. Luckily, I found this site and saw other people have had the same thing - looks like a scam to me.

This number has rung me a few times leaving messages on my answerphone asking me to call back to talk to some 'case officer'. Honestly, i'm getting loads of annoying calls these days so i just let most of them go to voicemail. I've only just managed to get caller ID set up on my landline so I can choose which calls to pick up. It's really getting on my nerves, the constant interruptions and stress are just too much.

My elderly mother in law got a call from someone saying they were from the Inland Revenue. They told her they’d been trying to get hold of her for ages and told her to press 1, so she did. Then a man answered and asked for her by name. She got a bit upset and asked who he was, feeling quite creeped out by the whole thing. Then the line just cut off.

Today, while I was giving my mum a lift home from a hospital visit, she got a ring from this number. I picked up and the person on the line wanted to talk to Mrs Walley, saying it was HMRC about some prosecution issue! I told them I was her daughter and that I work for Cheshire Police, and they just hung up. I tried calling back to sort things out and told them about the call mum got, but they cut me off again. I’m planning to check into this further over the next couple of days.

Had a call from this number earlier today like many others. I hit 1 when prompted but couldn’t make out the voice - sounded like a woman maybe foreign and said my name in a weird way. Told her to ring back later, which she did, but still couldn’t understand a thing she was saying. Asked her to verify either my National Insurance number or my date of birth but she just ended the call. First time there was no caller ID on my phone, second time it showed this number. Got a call pretending to be from HMRC, but it was definitely a scam. Watch out, they’re trying to trick people!

It’s been almost two weeks since this number got flagged, yet they’re still calling? It’s proper disgusting how they’re allowed to keep going like this.

Absolutely a scam, just like loads of others have mentioned. You get this robotic voice claiming, "HMRC is suing you, press 1 to talk to your case manager" or something similar. I’ve blocked the number, but there's always another one popping up straight away. These calls are completely out of hand, and honestly, the phone providers should do way more to stop them. For me, it’s just a nuisance, but I worry about older or vulnerable people who might get really upset or tricked by this sort of thing.

HMRC Scam Call - The story unfolds...! I received a rather dodgy automated message claiming to be from HMRC, warning me about a court action being taken against me and prompting me to press 1 to connect with my so-called case officer. The call cut off abruptly after that. Considering I’ve only ever dealt with HMRC on straightforward tax issues, my instinct was to be sceptical. A quick search of the number revealed a lot of similar reports, confirming my suspicions that it was yet another scam. I've gone ahead and reported this incident to www.actionfraud.police.uk and would strongly urge anyone else who finds themselves on the receiving end of such calls to do the same.

Got a call earlier from some bloke claiming to be Brian Newman from HMRC, said I was being arrested. He knew my last name which creeped me out since I’m not on any lists. I’ve gone ahead and blocked that number now. Curious how they managed to get both my name and number though.

I got a call the other day where an automated voice warned me that HMRC was about to take legal action against me, and it told me to press 1 to hear more. I didn’t press anything though and just ended the call. After that, I used 1471 to find out the number. Not sure what would've happened if I had pressed the button, but it felt really dodgy. Being self-employed, it’s quite worrying to get calls like this!

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent saying I’m being looked into for tax fraud. They mentioned my old surname which really freaked me out. Tried calling them back but couldn’t get through. Feels like a scam, right?

Received a call just now from 02037694847 and felt really intimidated. They said I’m being looked into for tax fraud, apparently some guy from India is using my old surname. The call came from London too. Definitely a SCAM!
Not sure what steps to take next, feeling really anxious about it.

The phone rang and my missus picked up, she pressed 1 like they asked and then some bloke said we owed a grand in taxes and that the coppers were going to show up. I snatched the phone off her, asked for his name, and they just cut the call. I've let our phone company know, and they're sorting it out with the police now.

Got a voicemail from someone saying it was HMRC, claiming they’d been trying to contact me. The message said to press 1 if I wanted to speak to them. So I did, and some woman with an Indian accent told me I’d be arrested in 30 minutes for not paying taxes over the last decade. I knew it was rubbish straight away and told her to stop wasting my time and leave me alone. This kind of thing is really scary and awful. Don’t fall for it, it’s definitely a scam.

They’ve been ringing me from this number saying there’s a tax case against me or something. The message keeps telling me to press one immediately. Sounds dodgy to me.

Few months back, I got call like this too. Already told the police about it, so I’ll be making another report now. Total scammers!

My mum got calls on both her mobile and her home phone from someone claiming to be from HMRC, saying she had a tax debt and needed to pop to MORRISONS to buy £500 worth of iTunes vouchers. Luckily, she didn’t fall for it. A few days later, the local police visited and told her it was definitely a scam - they said they’d pass on the details to help catch them. I’ve seen loads of clips about this on YouTube, apparently it began in the States.

Got a call from a machine claiming to be HMRC saying they were going to send me a court summons, asking me to press 1 to talk to a case adviser. I just ended the call and rang HMRC myself. They told me it was a scam and said to report it straight away to the Fraud team at www.actionfraud.police.uk. Definitely recommend anyone else who gets this to do the same.

I picked up a call that turned out to be a pre-recorded message claiming to be from HMRC, stating they were arranging a court summons. They asked me to press 1 to talk to a case advisor. I thought better of it and hung up, then got in touch with HMRC myself. They confirmed it was a scam! They recommended that I report it to their fraud department at www.actionfraud.police.uk. I’d suggest that everyone makes a report too, just to be safe.

Got a robo call about some supposed lawsuit against me. I hit '1' like they said and a person picked up, repeating the same thing. When I asked who it was for, they gave a name that wasn’t mine. The voice sounded foreign too, so I just ended the call.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent saying I had an arrest warrant connected to HMRC and a high court writ. They said the police would reach out in 30 minutes and to press 1 for details, but then the call just cut off. I've blocked the number through my phone provider's caller block service and also reported it to Action Fraud.

On 6th June 2017, a call came through from this number. I didn't pick up and just let it go to voicemail. Then a robotic voice played, saying there was some kind of lawsuit against me and to press 1 to speak with someone or get in touch with the police. Seemed dodgy to me.

Got a call three times from some bloke saying I owed money from like 10 years ago and if I didn't pay I'd get arrested. He told me to press 1 and when I asked his name and stuff, I just ended the call. Definitely a total scam.

I got a call from someone saying they were from customs and excise and that I was being investigated for fraud. They told me to press 1 on my phone to get more details. It sounded pretty dodgy to me, didn’t sound like a legit call at all. Doesn’t seem right to get calls like that out of the blue!
