Got a call from 02037458498 on 7 July 2018 around 3:28pm. They asked if I get the local free paper here in Coventry, which they already seemed to know. I said yes, we do get it, and then they thanked me and ended the call. Bit odd, really, since the number is from London and I'm not sure why they'd bother asking about a Coventry paper.

Loads of calls from this number but whenever I ring it back, it just won’t pick up! I never actually pick up their calls because I’m not keen on strangers bugging me. What’s odd is that I’m ex-directory, so how on earth did they get hold of my phone number? Seems a bit dodgy to me.

Got a call from an African woman, sounded middle aged, asking if we’d got the Southend Standard, like that free paper. She wanted to check our address, even though she already had it. Told her we hadn’t received it, then she just hung up.

Had a ring earlier from some Indian bloke named Daniel, he was askin' my daughter if we got some yellow advertiser and freakin' knew my address as well - bit creepy. Used 1471 to check their number, called it back, and it was just some random number showing up. What a load of rubbish!

Really feels like a dodgy call. They ring almost every day, and today I finally had a moment to dig a bit deeper.

The woman asked if I’d got the "MidWeek Observer". What followed was a bit strange:

I asked, "Which firm do you work for exactly?"
She replied, "I'm calling for the MidWeek Observer."
"Do you work for them directly?"
"No, just calling on their behalf."
"Then, what company are you with?"
"I'm calling on behalf of MidWeek Observer."
"I'm trying to ask which company employs you?"
She just stayed quiet.
"Can you spell that for me?"
"Oh, sorry, didn’t mean to bother you..."

Been getting calls from this number all through the day at random times. I usually ignore it now since I know who it is, but it’s still really annoying and feels like an invasion. I did report it ages ago. With all the new privacy laws recently introduced, I assumed these calls would stop, but nope, hasn’t helped one bit!

Got a missed call from this number on Tuesday evening (29/5) around 8:42pm, but there was no voicemail or anything. When I dialled it back the next day, it just said “the number you’ve called isn’t recognised...” I’m on the ex-directory list myself, so it’s a bit strange how they might be getting hold of these details. Maybe they’re cross-referencing addresses or trying to see if anyone’s home? Either way, I’ve blocked the number now.

Got a call on 2/05/2018 and then again twice on 10/05/2018. A bloke said he was from some third party called Merit, talking about charity finances, trying to check if 9 people listed are still with the charity. He didn’t seem to get that the company name he had was totally wrong and we’d never dealt with those people. Seems like a call centre just ticking off names, maybe linked to the new GDPR rules or summat.

My phone suddenly went off, waking me up. I answered, "Hello?" Only to hear this Indian accent mumbling some weird message without even saying hi. They started with "Dyou..." and I asked, "Sorry, what?" Then they asked if I'd got the local paper. I said no and they continued to ask if I lived at 3 Kings Road. I just reported this number for being annoying, but forgot to warn others not to give out their address, phone or any personal details to someone you don’t know. Identity thieves use loads of different calls to get your info bit by bit. One call might not seem suspicious, but over time they collect things like your address, birthday and phone number. They probably got your card info already and just need this other stuff to create a fake ID.

Then he started reading out my address to "verify" and I just said yes without thinking. It’s weird cos there’s no way someone working on paper deliveries should have my home number.
