It’s reached a point where I’ve given up answering my landline altogether. Instead, I find myself dialling 1471, and should I recognise the caller as a mate or family member, I’ll consider returning the call. I've been on the TPS register for ages, but honestly, it seems completely ineffective. Receiving calls three or four times daily can be quite exasperating! You feel almost obliged to pick up every time, just in case it’s a call about a family emergency. It’s the stress of not knowing that really gets to you.

When I attempted to return the call, I was greeted by a robotic voice. Initially, they claimed to be affiliated with Cancer Research, but now it seems to be something called Crime UK. When I inquired about how they obtained my number, a chap who introduced himself as Lance claimed that I had provided it.
