Received a call from this number recently. Interestingly, I had two similar calls just the day before, and each time, the final three digits were different. I’ve chosen not to engage and simply hang up instead.

The phone buzzed twice before the caller abruptly disconnected. I’d describe this as a “silent hang-up menace,” quite possibly a scam attempt or an auto-dialler fishing for live numbers. In my opinion, this practice should be outlawed - it’s downright irritating. Personally, I choose not to pick up if I don't recognise the number, and I insist that callers leave a voicemail. They should clearly state who they are, the organisation they represent, the purpose of their call, and crucially, provide a direct contact number that reaches their desk instead of a general department line.

The English was really hard to understand but I caught something about Carphone Warehouse. When I rang the number back, it turned out to be some sort of ‘expert web design’ firm. They’re not actually located in the UK, just hire a set of London phone numbers. If there’s a UK address listed, chances are it’s just a mail forwarding address, often shared by various scammers. Best to just block all those numbers. Proper dodgy people. Honestly, it’s high time the UK stopped allowing companies to lease phone numbers and PO boxes like this.
