At around 3:50pm on 12th Nov, my phone buzzed with a call. I picked up and greeted with a simple "hello". There was some background noise like you'd hear in a call centre, but nobody replied straight away. After a few seconds, a voice asked, "May I speak with Mr or Mrs X?" (with my surname). I replied, "This is Mr X speaking," and then the caller just hung up abruptly. Seems to me they were trying to verify if the name matched the number. I've decided to block the number now.

This number has rung me a few times now. Today I picked up and they asked for my husband. I told them that I wish I could talk to him too, but he passed away suddenly on Remembrance Sunday six years back. He was a Veteran of 45 RM Commando and was about to march with other Veterans to the Cenotaph when he just collapsed. As I tried to explain how upsetting it was to get a call like that during such a emotional time, the line went dead. Do they have any consideration? Not in the slightest!
