I received a phone call around 15:50 on the 12th of November. When I picked up, I greeted the caller with a "hello", but all I could hear were the typical sounds from a call centre in the background, and there was no immediate response. A few seconds later, a chap finally spoke up and inquired if he could chat with Mr or Mrs X (my last name). I replied, "This is Mr X speaking," only for the caller to hang up right after. I suspect they were likely trying to verify a connection between my name and the number they dialled. I've gone ahead and blocked that number now.

I’ve received multiple calls from this number over the past few weeks. When I finally picked up today, the person on the other end wanted to chat with my husband. I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness as I explained that it'd be lovely to converse with my dear husband, but he passed away rather unexpectedly six years ago on Remembrance Sunday. He was a dedicated veteran with the 45 RM Commando, preparing to march to the Cenotaph when he tragically collapsed. As I tried to convey how upsetting it was to receive such a call at a time of year that’s particularly emotional for me, the line went completely silent. Do they even consider the implications of their calls? Clearly, not in the slightest!
