They said they were from TPS, but it had all the signs of a total scam.

Got a call from someone pretending to check if I qualified for a “free” offer, clearly just trying to grab my card info. I told them my card was out of date, then asked for their sort code and the first four digits of the “next cheque number” (which actually is the start of your bank account number). They’re tricky - can’t just give them random numbers because they use the last digit to verify the rest. Still, I managed to waste about half an hour of their time without handing over any real details. Fingers crossed I’ve stopped them from ripping off someone more trusting.

I got a call from 01248209495, and during it, the person gave me this number. The guy spoke with a strong Indian accent which was hard to understand. He claimed to be from some Telephone Preference Service and asked me to confirm my credit card expiry date to stop unwanted overseas calls. When I refused, he got quite pushy and warned that if I didn’t verify, all my phone preferences would be cancelled and I’d get bombarded with spam calls. I just hung up. Both these numbers are definitely dodgy and best avoided.

Got loads of calls today asking me to verify my bank info. I told them I never share that stuff on the phone and mentioned I’m on the telephone preference service. Didn’t give out any details. If they bother me again, I’m gonna say I’m reporting it to the cops.

I had this really pushy bloke on the phone! He was all over me, trying to get my bank info. He reckoned he already had it, so I dared him to say it out loud. When he finally did, it was totally off. Told him he was wrong and I wasn’t handing over any real details! Took a while, but I finally managed to shake him off. Proper stressful, that was!

About three days ago, I got a call from a bloke with a very strong Indian accent claiming to be from some kind of telephone preference service. He knew my bank's sort code and even the last four digits of my account, which made me think twice. He asked if anything had changed since the last time he'd contacted me. I was pretty sure it was dodgy but he insisted it wasn’t a scam, and him having my bank details made it seem legit. Then today, I got a letter from Guaranteed Telecom saying a direct debit was set up in my name. When I rang to cancel and avoid paying £21.99, the guy told me I couldn’t as the service was already activated, and honestly, he came across as quite pushy. We’re now trying to stop the payment through my bank, fingers crossed it works.

Got a letter from these jokers claiming I’d arranged a direct debit. They even used "United Kingdom" in my address! The letter didn’t have a name or signature anywhere. It had all my bank details, like sort code and stuff. They called themselves Guaranteed Telecom and included phone numbers that you can easily find online, but every review I saw was really negative.

I got a call from a number starting 01784448146 the other day. The person said they were from some call blocking company, but I was just having breakfast so told them I'd ring back later. When I asked for their number, they gave me one starting 004420, which made it seem like they were calling from abroad. This isn’t the first time I’ve had calls from 01784448146 about blocking calls. I’m thinking of calling them back but hiding my number first, to see what they really want, then probably reporting it to the proper telephone preference folks.

Got a ring from Telephone Preference Management on 01784448146, they were trying to pitch a call blocking service. I was munching on brekkie at the time, so told them I'd ring back later. When I asked for their contact number, they gave it in the international format 00442036211316, which made me think they were abroad. This number has called me a few times about call blocking now. I’m thinking of calling them back but hiding my number first to see what's going on, then I’ll probably report it to the telephone preference service.

I had the exact same issue with this firm. I went to my bank and made sure they stopped any more direct debits of £21.99 going to them. Now I just block the number 02036211316 and don't answer when they call.

My dad got a call from someone trying to sell call blocking. He’s a bit old and almost ended up giving them info since they already mentioned the last four numbers of his bank card. Thankfully he stopped before sharing anything else. I’ve reported the number to his phone network now.

They say they're some kind of phone preference service that can block annoying calls. But they tricked my 72-year-old neighbour into paying £21.99 just to stop these calls. You'd think they'd have some decency! She was getting around 12 calls daily from silent or numbers that just hung up. I've gone ahead and signed her up with BT Call Protect now. When my wife tried to get the money back for her, the company just refused. Apparently, they ain't heard of the 14-day cooling off rule for sales over the phone.

On Wednesday 18/04/18, I had a call from the number 0203 6211 316, which appeared on my landline as 01678 300 014 - a bit strange, right? The woman on the line had an Asian accent and tried to get me to share my debit card info, but thankfully I didn’t fall for it. When I asked where she was calling from, she mentioned 70 St Margarets Street in London. From what I’ve heard from others who've had calls from this number, it’s the same story. So to anyone else who's had this happen, please don’t give in and hand over any card details - stay safe!

Total rip off - targets older folks. If you or someone you look after is elderly, please don’t pick up if this number rings. And if you notice any money taken from your or their bank via direct debit, make sure to phone up and let them know you’re getting the bank involved to stop the payment. These people are definitely con artists and should be made known for scamming.

My elderly Mum, who's 80, got a call from someone pretending to be with BT, said they were helping to stop annoying calls. They tried to get her bank info, but luckily she didn’t share her security number. Seems like it was one of those Indian scams.

Just like all the other posts, this was a scam claiming to be from TPS. They pressured my elderly mate into handing over bank details, which is just awful. Seriously, how do these scammers live with themselves? I've noticed a few folks have reported them to the police - fingers crossed they take action soon.

Got a ring from some bloke named MIKE claiming to be from India. They’re obviously scammers targeting people who might not be able to defend themselves. Told him straight to erase my number from whatever list they’re using since they’re the ones being a complete pain. He said he can’t do that and I’m gonna get calls nonstop. Feeling like I need to sharpen up my words next time and maybe get myself a whistle to blow at ’em!

Got a few calls from different people claiming to be from a dept that can block international calls. When I asked which number they were calling from, one gave me the number mentioned here, another came from 01461444023. Neither number seems to be active now. Feels pretty shady to me.

Got a call from someone saying they were with the TPS, trying to sell me some sort of "lifetime protection" from annoying calls from abroad, charging £20.99. I told them I wasn’t interested but they kept pushing, and honestly they were a bit pushy. They already had bits of info about my Visa card, which freaked me out a bit. In a daze, I gave them my sort code and a related number but thankfully didn’t hand over the full card number or the security code. I’ve let my bank know what happened and so far, no money has been taken from my account.

My nan's been getting these quiet calls all day, then outta nowhere, this number rings her up sayin' they knew about the annoying calls and could help block them. Claimed they were from BT and part of some phone preference service. Sadly, she ended up giving them her bank info. I rang the number back and had quite the row with the people on the line, sounded like they were Indian. After some arguing, they promised to cancel whatever service it was. The bank've already frozen her card, so now we just gotta see what happens. What a load of rubbish!

I got calls from some bloke saying he was with Guaranteed Telecom about the Telephone Preference Service that supposedly stops marketing calls. He was really pushy, kept ringing non-stop and was quite rude. Honestly, best not to deal with them at all and definitely let your bank know, because it seems like they try to arrange direct debits using your info they already have.

hey just a heads up about a dodgy number pretending to be from the tps (telephone preference service). they try to get you to give out your bank info, claiming they already know your bank (could be a lucky guess tho) and want you to confirm it. i spoke to tps and they said they're aware of these scams but there’s not much they can do. so be careful, don’t hand over any details, tps wouldn’t be asking for that anyway.

Some bloke called “Edward Jones” rang up, saying he was Anglo-Indian or something, which sounded a bit off to me. I told him he didn’t sound like any Mr Jones I’ve ever come across. Hey everyone, watch out for a SCAM that pretends to be from the TPS (Telephone Preference Service). They ring you up and try to get your bank info, even saying they know your bank already (maybe they guessed right). Then they ask you to verify your account details.
I contacted TPS myself, and while they know about these fraudsters, there’s nothing they can do about it. PLEASE be careful and never share your banking info.
Remember, TPS would never ask for stuff like that!

I had a rather dubious experience with this company, as they were requesting the expiry date of my credit card. I firmly declined to provide such information, and I would strongly advise others to do the same. If they ever ask you to verify your card's expiry date, just don’t! It might be wise to consider changing your credit card altogether, as they could very well have access to sensitive details. Stay vigilant!
