I received a rather suspicious call from a firm named Cold Call Cancellation, claiming to offer a complimentary device to eliminate unwanted calls. They mentioned a partnership with BT and TalkTalk, which initially piqued my interest. Once the so-called ‘black box’ arrived, the instructions were perplexing; I was instructed to place it nearby my telephone without any mention of needing to connect the phone line to it first, then plugging my phone into the device. They assured me that it wouldn’t require a power source and would effectively block all nuisance calls-quite the promise! To secure this 'service,' they merely requested my debit card details for a £19.99 fee for postage and packing. This entire situation raised some red flags for me-it had the hallmarks of a classic scam, especially given the English accents of both the gentleman and lady on the line.
