I received a rather peculiar call from this number just a short while ago, and I couldn't shake the impression that it was a call centre based in India, given the heavy accents and chatter of others in the background. The chap on the other end claimed to represent Microsoft, stating that there were concerns regarding my Windows licence. He alarmingly informed me that they were poised to cancel it due to suspicious activity linked to my home computer. He asserted that I had been inundated with emails and had failed to respond, hence the impending cancellation, which would render my computer useless. Naturally, I sought clarification regarding which of our four computers he was referring to, and I also inquired about the email address to which these warnings had supposedly been dispatched. Strangely, he couldn’t specify the computer or the email in question, which raised my eyebrows. As he continued, he warned that if I were engaged in online banking or shopping, my sensitive details could be compromised, rendering my computer unsafe. Yet, curiously, he asked me to enter certain letters and numbers into my system. That was my cue to press him further about his identity and the legitimacy of the call. He insisted he was calling from Microsoft’s main office. Feeling increasingly dubious, I requested a phone number so I could verify his claims later, once my guests had left, as I had no spare moment to delve into this matter. He seemed quite adamant that it was urgent to resolve the issue immediately, which only heightened my suspicions. Despite reiterating that I was occupied, he persisted in trying to pressure me into immediate action, which I found quite off-putting. So, I decided enough was enough and hung up. To my dismay, he called back, and again, I ended the conversation. He attempted to ring me another four times thereafter. I strongly suspect this is a scam aimed at gaining access to unsuspecting individuals' computers and sensitive information, leaving their passwords and banking details vulnerable. Those who aren't savvy with technology could easily be misled into providing the access these fraudsters seek. Perhaps I’m just being overly cautious, but my instinct warned me against proceeding further until I could verify the authenticity of his claims.

A chap with a noticeable Asian twang claimed his name was John Kelly. He insisted that I was supposedly using a computer (which is rather amusing since I don't own one) and that my IP address was in serious violation of Microsoft’s licensing regulations. Allegedly, hackers from overseas had hijacked my licence and were making use of my ID and IP. He threatened to disable my licence in a mere quarter of an hour. When I probed him with a few questions, it was obvious he was floundering. I told him I needed to verify his credentials before proceeding, which seemed to infuriate him. When I inquired about his rather impolite manner, he didn’t take it too well. I pointed out his remarks about hackers, mentioning that he could just as easily be one, prompting me to confirm his identity first. After a quick search for his number, I stumbled upon this forum!

Somebody called me claiming to be from Microsoft.

The staff seem to be constantly badgering us, going on about supposed threats to the computer systems.
