A male with a foreign accent reads out a complex code to check it, then asks you to enter a new one. When questioned, the caller turns abusive, and the same person may call again from a different number, continuing the harassment. Users have had to replace their phones due to the distress caused.

Someone claimed to be from BT, saying "others are accessing my info, I need to update my ID." It was a bloke with a foreign accent who read out a complicated ID for me to verify on my laptop (which I did), then told me to enter a new ID. That’s when I got suspicious and passed the call to a lady nearby. The caller got really nasty and started shouting. I ended up changing my phone. Not long after, I got another call from the same person but using a different number, and the abuse just kept going. Had to get a new phone again.
