I got a call from NTT Fundraising and they were representing Dogs Trust. They make it clear right from the start that they’re raising money for Dogs Trust, so no surprises there. Basically, they’re informing you about sponsoring a dog for just a pound a week. The payment is done through a monthly Direct Debit of £4.38 - the extra 38p is just the way they’ve worked out the 52 weeks in a year. Seems like a legit and straightforward scheme to me.

Theyve been ringing me twice daily all through December even tho ive asked them to stop. Ive blocked the number but it still manages to show up twice a day on my phone. They claim if you sponsor a dog you’ll get 4 greeting cards a year from that dog. I said to the lady, "so basically I'm just footing the bill for my own cards?" She hurriedly said, "No, no, it’s from the dog." I replied, "Right, so the dog somehow buys the cards, writes them, sticks a stamp on and posts them to me?" She chuckled awkwardly and quickly moved on. I’m not giving money to people who ring me without being asked.

He quickly asked, "Oh, so you’re not keen to help then?" I said "No, ta." I reckon they were after donations. The guy sounded nice, must be tough dealing with people turning them down all the time. Thats actually the Dog’s Trust line, they’ll usually ring you about sponsoring a dog or if you’ve just made a one-off donation. Just pick up, have a chat and tell them you want to be removed from their calling list, or like others suggested, drop them an email. Easy enough.

I've been disregarding these calls, as I rarely pick up for unfamiliar numbers, which is precisely why. However, I finally caved and took one of their calls. The chap on the line claimed to be representing Dogs Trust and was rather well-spoken, armed with a slew of statistics and information. But, much like the myriad of other unsolicited callers, he quickly pivoted to asking for a donation over the phone. That's when I drew the line. I terminated the call, blocked the number, and considered the matter settled. If I ever decide to contribute to a charity, it will be through their official website-not at the behest of some stranger on the phone, as there's no way to ascertain their authenticity.
