I received a phone call earlier today from this number, purporting to be the main office in Southampton for the calls preference service, affiliated with BT. The caller attempted to sell me a lifetime plan to avoid pesky calls, quoting a price of £99. I informed him that we already utilise this service and that BT, in fact, does not impose any charges for it. He claimed to have some of my information and suggested he could activate the policy, but he didn’t verify my address and abruptly ended the call. I then contacted BT, and they confirmed it was indeed a scam, stating that they never reach out to customers with such offers, and that the calls preference service is supposed to be free of charge.

A call was received from this number aimed at a friend whose spouse passed away just ten days ago. The individual on the other end of the line insisted that our friend held a policy with them meant to reduce nuisance calls and that it was up for renewal today! It’s plainly evident that this is a scam targeting vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly, at a delicate moment in their lives. This situation must be brought to the attention of trading standards immediately.
