I got a call asking if I was interested in the Alzheimer's association and help with keeping my brain healthy. They said they'd post me some free info leaflets about it.

I’ve seen a few numbers close to mine pop up as possible spam before I picked up, but this one didn’t show anything so I answered it. Lucky I didn’t hand over any bank info. They only got my phone, address, and email - stuff they somehow already had! When I rang back, a really convincing voice told me to call 0300111555, but turns out it’s actually a bathroom company!

Just gave it a go and rang the number they said, 03001115555, but must've pressed something wrong cos it turned out to be some bathroom firm. Tried again and got through to the Alzheimers Society instead. The number they told me to ring if you're worried is 020 3424 3658. Surely they can provide the right contact number for Alzheimers, can't they? I thought the Government was meant to be cracking down on these dodgy numbers? Anyways, if you end up in a spot, don’t ever hand over any bank info!

They called to get my address for posting, but when I asked if they could email it, they said they weren’t set up for that. I straight up asked if they were after money and was told ‘regular donations would be appreciated.’ With all the scams about, this feels dodgy to me. I just wanted the booklet, no strings. Be careful before handing out your info to these lot.

I found myself speaking to a woman on the phone for about eleven minutes. She claimed to represent an agency focused on Alzheimer's research, which piqued my interest since my husband is living with Lewy body dementia. However, she appeared to have quite an extensive knowledge on the subject. Eventually, I made it clear that I'm not in the habit of providing my bank details to unknown callers and chose to hang up. She was rather inquisitive about my personal information, which I found a tad intrusive.
