Got a voicemail from bt1571, but it didn’t say who called. It was some automated message telling me there’s a case against me and to ring back to talk to the case officer. Felt a bit dodgy, not sure what to make of it.

Got a call today, just like others have mentioned, with someone asking for my national insurance number. When I asked what for, as I wasn’t sure who I was speaking to, he threatened to send the police if I hung up. I just ended the call, the guy sounded like he had an Indian accent. Tried ringing back on the number but got an answerphone with an American accent saying he was out and to leave a message with my details. Proper dodgy.

Today I got a phone call from this number claiming that HMRC was taking legal action against me for supposedly not paying £687 in tax from 1980 to 2016. They also threatened me with a £46000 fine and up to 5 years in jail. It’s disgusting that people who make these awful threats should be tracked down and locked up themselves. Or if they're not British, they should be reported back to their own country to face their own justice system. Honestly, I wish I could confront these scammers in person and let them know just how low they really are!

I got home after a long day at work, just about midnight. I pay my taxes like everyone else. My husband looked really stressed and told me HMRC were supposedly starting legal action against us. He’s not the best with these things. It’s infuriating how these scammers bother hardworking people who actually pay their dues. Why can’t they be stopped? This definitely isn’t HMRC. If it was a real issue, they’d either send you an official letter or get the police involved for serious matters. Don’t hand over any info to these scammers, you’ll just end up getting conned. I tried asking a guy who claimed to be my “case officer” which HMRC office he was based in, but he couldn’t say. When I told him he wasn’t from HMRC and was just trying to scam people, he immediately cut the call.
