I received a call from some chap representing a mobile network-couldn't quite catch his name. He was touting a deal that seemed two times better than anything on the market: £35 a month for the latest iPhone, while the proper providers are charging around £80. It definitely felt dodgy to me. The moment I inquired about how he obtained my information, he hung up without a word!

This is a scam with fake phone offers. There are like 3 comments and about 9 below here that tell you what to do if you want to fight back against these frauds. Don’t just wait for someone else to sort it out. Nothing changes unless loads of us start reporting it and contacting our MPs.

Got a call claiming to be from O2, offering some deal and wanting to know my current bill. I told the person they should already have that info and asked them to tell me what plan I was on because it all felt dodgy. Sure enough, the caller ended the call right after I asked. Definitely not O2, too casual with phrases like “bless you” and stuff.

A couple posts down explain ways to help put an end to these scams and why simply blocking numbers might not do the trick. Reporting is a bit of a hassle but no harder than searching for info and sharing it here. The police fraud report system doesn’t need your personal info. It won’t be quick but right now, the police don’t really know how widespread these calls are, so they can’t properly respond. Your MP’s reply might be a bit ‘meh’, but unless everyone affected steps up and reports, nothing will change to stop these annoying calls and texts.

Looked it up on EDF’s site, looks like a legit EDF number but the call was super annoying. They kept saying I’m getting smart meters, kept me on the line forever, even asked where they could park their car! They just went on and on, absolutely bored me stiff, then suddenly said there’s no appointments available. What’s the point of ringing if they’ve got no appointments? Ridiculous!
