Got a call from a lady with an Indian accent saying she was from 3G, but I’m actually with giffgaff. Definitely a scam, so I just ended the call.

They rang my daughter, threatening to arrest her over her taxes. Honestly, that feels like a form of child abuse to me, and if I ever catch these people, I swear I’ll make them regret it badly. It’s really about time the phone companies were held responsible - if they can’t do proper ID checks (like when you open a bank account, or if the person asking for the number has no credit or bank record) then they should just refuse to give out the number.

Some 'official' called claiming I hadn't paid enough tax and said they'd get an arrest warrant out for me. They told me to press 1 to talk to an officer and sort it out by paying over the phone. I didn't fall for it and they just cut me off when I said no.

Someone called me saying I needed to press 1 because I supposedly committed tax fraud and if I didn’t, the Police would come to arrest me! It was a recorded message and only went on for about 29 seconds. I ended the call straight away but I can imagine how frightening this could be for someone more vulnerable. Got a call from someone in India asking for my private info, I said no and told them they were probably scammers. They rang me two times. I hung up straight away. Fake HMRC tax scam, pure nonsense. Rang my 75 year old mum, threatening to arrest her straight away on her doorstep for £6500 they claimed she owed from when she ran hotels in London. They even knew where and when she worked. If I hadn’t been there, she’d have totally believed it was legit. When I spoke to the woman on the phone, her attitude was horrible. Loads of “You’re getting arrested, yeah!” and she kept ending sentences with “Yeah”. Sounded like she’d been taught in a rubbish tip. Reported to the police and blocked the number!

Picked up the phone and a woman asked for X (which is my first name). I said she was already talking to X, then she said she was calling from the tax office, HMRC. She mentioned I might get some refund for uniform and travel expenses. I told her I never wore any uniform nor claimed travel costs, plus I’ve heard loads of warnings about scammers pretending to be from tax before. Ended the call and blocked the number straight away.
