I received a call from a woman with a distinctly American accent, delivering a rather poorly executed message claiming to be from HMRC. She stated that I was under investigation for tax evasion and that the matter had already been forwarded to the police, with a magistrate involved. There was an option to "Press 1 to speak with an HMRC representative," but naturally, I didn't take the bait. It's quite perplexing that, in a nation boasting some of the most sophisticated telecommunications advancements globally, our authorities-be it the police, BT, or the regulatory bodies-can't seem to shut down these fraudulent numbers effectively. What’s the hold-up?
