Pretty much like what others have said, I received a call from an automated American male voice claiming to be HMRC. He said I had to call back right away and warned me not to ignore it. Total scam, obviously. The HMRC don't operate like that - they would always send a letter first if there was any issue.

On Monday 25th September 2017, my answerphone got two pretty aggressive messages from a guy with an American accent, saying he was ringing from 'HMRC Tribunals and Courthouse' about some tax evasion or avoidance stuff. He told me or my lawyer to ring them straight away on 020 3290 7104. I was suspicious straight away, since I can't see HMRC handling things that way. After seeing similar posts here, I’m convinced it’s best to just ignore those calls.

On the 25th of September 2017, I got a call from this number. It was some automated voice warning me to ring back straight away or my lawyer about taxes and HMRC would get involved. I just ignored it and didn’t bother calling them back!

Pretty much like what everyone else said - they claim there's tax fraud and say to call them or your solicitor back, telling you not to ignore it. Right away, it seemed dodgy because HMRC just don't operate like that. First off, if there was a proper criminal issue, it’d come by letter, no question. And they wouldn’t jump straight to words like fraud or evasion, at least at the start - usually, they’d say something like they want to “clarify a few details” or alike. Reading through this site just backs up my gut feeling. Definitely not ringing them back.

Got two voicemails from someone who sounded American saying he was calling from the courts and HM Revenue. On the 22nd of September, I got a call like others have mentioned, someone said they were from HMRC accusing me of tax evasion and fraud. They wanted me or my solicitor to ring them back straight away on 0203 290 7104. When I phoned back, the person said they were with the HMRC tax office but as soon as I asked a few questions, they just hung up. It’s crazy that these folks are still able to do this stuff, why aren’t they stopped?
