Got a voicemail from an American-sounding robot claiming to be Sara Wilson from HMRC. They asked me to ring back about some tax refund or else face legal trouble. It ended with a cold 'Goodbye' and 'Thank you'. Really creepy, I can see how this could trick some folks. Watch out! Make sure to report it to Action Fraud and HMRC [email protected]

Got an automated call claiming to be from the Inland Revenue, but the person spoke with a US accent and kept saying "Attorney" which I've never heard from the actual tax office here. Felt a bit threatening if you ask me!

Got a call today from some bloke abroad claiming to be a detective investigating me for a crime in London! I asked which police station he was from and didn’t share any personal info. He started getting rude, saying I’d be hearing from the police in a couple hours and that I should find a good solicitor as I’d be prosecuted. I asked him to repeat who he was but he refused, saying I hadn’t confirmed my details. Proper scary call, honestly. Went to my local cops and they said it’s a scam. Just block and ignore, folks!

Got a call from a really pushy group insisting I had to pay £3900 immediately or I'd be sent to jail for six months over fraud. They claimed they had solid proof of me committing tax fraud. When I tried to ask them stuff about the case, they just snapped and refused to explain anything. Honestly, it stressed me out loads and left me feeling quite unsettled.

Another scam call pretending to be HMRC, just like before. I didn’t pick up but they left a voicemail. The woman had an American accent and used the same name as last time, Sara Wilson.

Just like the earlier calls, but this time the woman said her name was Kelly Wilson. She claimed to be from the Inland Revenue and said they were looking into me for tax evasion. I usually catch on to scams pretty quickly, but these lot sounded so believable. They said they’d sent me letters twice and because I hadn’t replied, it’s now a criminal matter. She even advised me to get a lawyer and said my bank accounts and passport would be frozen. Honestly, it left me really anxious and panicky. I totally understand how people can get tricked by this, so watch out!

Got a robo call saying I owed money to HMRC and to call them straight away or face legal trouble. Aren't these kind of annoying and threatening calls actually illegal? It really worries me how much damage this sort of thing could cause, especially to older or more vulnerable people. Proper nasty people!

Got a call from this number and when I picked up, there was total silence apart from some clicking sounds, then a robotic woman said "goodbye". Proper weird! Looked it up here and seen loads of similar reports. Honestly glad I didn't have a proper chat like some folks. Blocked the number straight away. Definitely not HMRC, and I've reported it to them as well. Would recommend everyone else do that too.

Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent, claiming to be from HMRC. He said I owed around £4000 or sumthing, not sure exact amount now, and that there’s a warrant out for my arrest. Told me to go to the police station, don’t drive cos my licence is supposedly blacklisted, and even that they’d visited my home. Number came up as an 0330 one. Total scam, I just hung up and called them back myself. Watch out everyone!

Yeah, I’ve had one of these calls too. Worth mentioning, they don’t actually say HMRC, they say "Inland Revenue", which hasn’t been a thing since 17th April 2005. No one at HMRC ever uses that term. Plus, having worked at both Inland Revenue and HMRC for more than 40 years, I can tell you no one ever calls themselves "Officer" or anything like that. It’s honestly pretty daft.
