So I got a voicemail and when I rang back, some guy with an Indian accent picked up. He gave me a "warrant ID" and then stuck me on hold. While waiting I quickly searched their number online and found out it was a total scam. I hung up straight away, but then he called me back like 4 times within a minute! Honestly, it was a bit nerve-wracking at first but I’m really glad I took a moment to check it out on the internet before doing anything. Don’t get caught out by these tricks!

Got a call with the same message, sounded super American and kinda off. No way the real HMRC would talk like that. I just blocked the number straight away.

Got a voicemail earlier today that really freaked me out. The caller claimed to be Sarah Wilson from HMRC, warning me it was urgent and mentioning solicitors. The message sounded weird though, like it was AI generated and had an American accent, plus it started halfway through. I also noticed missed a call from 02032900186 but didn’t connect it to the voicemail at first. I tried ringing back but nobody picked up. Found this site after and really relieved to have a way to check these dodgy calls and block them before they bother me again. Cheers for that!

This smells like a total scam, so phoning them back would probably be the worst move. Since I’m on PAYE, I don’t get to handle the tax directly anyway, so maybe it’s safer to just ignore it. I’ve blocked and deleted the number and I’ll see if I can report it somewhere, though I’m pretty certain these calls come from abroad. Honestly, I’d advise against answering any automated calls unless you’re expecting one from your bank, and even then, try to look up their official number yourself and call back to be safe.

Right from the start, I could tell it was a dodgy call, so I just hung up and slapped a block on the number. Honestly, do these scammers believe we're all that thick? But then again, if someone's actually sorting stuff with HMRC, or if they're vulnerable, it’s easy to see how they might fall for it.

They left a voicemail, yet again. These guys keep calling me from new numbers all the time. I block one and then another one pops up. I’m registered with the telephone preference service, so what they’re doing has got to be against the law. It’s really annoying!

Got a call like that too, didn’t even give them a chance to say much before I just cut it off. Then I went ahead and blocked the number straight away.

I just got a call from this number and it felt dodgy, like some kind of scam. Even HMRC wouldn't get in touch this way. I don't have anything to hide, but still, went ahead and blocked it.

Got a call on my personal phone from this number just after 8 in the morning. I usually sort out tax returns for a couple of folks, so I wasn’t sure if this was legit or not since they didn’t give any proper names - just kept mentioning some Sarah Wilson, who apparently is well-known. Decided to look up the number online and, thankfully, I did. I’m aware that HMRC wouldn’t handle things like this, but still, it really scared me! I've blocked the number now.

I got a message warning me about some urgent legal issue, spoken in this robotic voice that reminded me of Stephen Hawking’s speech synthesiser - except, y’know, a bit less endearing! The caller said she was Sarah Wilson from HMRC and told me to ring a number back instead of just pressing a button on the phone. I’m curious what’d happen if someone did call it. Seems like a bit of a joke, but I doubt it’s harmless. Could be pretty risky, especially if someone’s already dealing with HMRC and gets caught out by this. Makes me worried for people who might fall for it.

I had pretty much the same thing happen. Got a call from an American lady called Sarah Wilson, sounded like she was working for HMRC or something. She was so rude and threatening. I just blocked the number and deleted the call. Loads of awful people out there using this trick.

‪020 3290 0186‬ Just got a call from someone claiming to be Sarah Wilson, a solicitor for HMRC here in the UK. The voice sounded American, which was odd enough, but then there was this recorded message threatening legal action if I didn’t ring back. HMRC would never do that over the phone - they always send letters first. The way they spoke wasn’t very British either. Pretty sure this is just another phone scam and it’s worrying such things keep happening. Absolutely rubbish these scammers still getting through.

Got a voicemail just like the others mentioned here, a lady speaking with an American accent saying I was about to be arrested over some tax issue. We’re actually on holiday in Ireland at the moment, so I called back the number. A man answered with a sort of South Asian or American accent, which made me doubt them straight away. I told him my taxes are all sorted and HMRC never calls like that, and he just hung up. I've blocked that number now.

This morning around 8, I got a call from a man with an Indian accent using the number 0203 290 0186. He said there were some issues with my taxes and mentioned a five-year review by tax authorities. Apparently, I’d broken some rules, even though this was the first I’d heard of it. He warned that if I didn’t clear a supposed £4000 by 9:30, they’d freeze all my bank cards and other assets. Felt like a total scam to me.

Just a little while ago, I got a call from this number completely out of nowhere. There was a recorded message from a woman telling me to ring Sarah Wilson about an urgent HMRC matter. I tried calling back but no one picked up. It felt pretty strange and frustrating since I know HMRC wouldn’t get in touch like that. I looked up the number online and ended up on this site. I just got a call telling me I supposedly owe £4500 from something back in 2013 or 2014. They said if I didn’t pay up, they’d issue a warrant for my arrest and I’d be forced to pay £20,000 plus have all my belongings taken. Sounds like a total scam to me!

Got a call from this number but didn’t pick up. They left a voicemail, sounded like some American fella saying he was from HMRC. Said if I didn’t ring back, or they got word from my solicitor, they’d go after me legally. It was pretty intimidating, especially since they’d called my 14-year-old, who has no dealings with HMRC at all. Seems like a total scam to me.
