About ten minutes back, I got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, saying I owed money for last year’s taxes. It didn’t feel right, so I called HMRC myself and they confirmed it was a scam. They told me they never phone to talk about payments like that. The caller also threatened legal action, which really stressed me out. I received a rather alarming message on my voicemail stating that "HMRC is launching legal action against you. Press 1 to connect with your assigned officer." Naturally, I returned the call using 1471, only to be greeted by an odd chap with a thick Indian accent. When I inquired what this was all about, he inquired if I was one Carol Watts.
