My mum, who’s quite old, got a call out of the blue from someone named Steve saying he was from her bank. He told her that £1000 had been taken from her account but that she shouldn’t panic as they were looking into it and would pay her back. He promised to call her again in a few hours. The number he used was 02032892164. They did phone back later that same day and once more at half past eight the following morning. Luckily, mum had checked with me first and didn’t share any personal details.

I’m looking after an elderly woman who’s got dementia. Someone calling himself Steve kept ringing, pretending to be from her bank's fraud team. He said there was a dishonest employee at her local branch and asked her to help catch them. He told her to take out £3000 in cash, put it in an envelope, and then wait for instructions on where to leave it. He also warned her not to tell anyone about it. Thankfully, she didn’t go along with it and won’t be able to in the future. I really can’t understand how these people sleep at night. They’re horrible, no-good scammers. His constant calls left her feeling really scared and dazed.
