Got a phone call from this number on April 11th, 2019. The person claimed there was a problem with my internet security. I looked up the number afterwards and realised it was some sort of scam. I made sure not to share any details with them.

Really worrying situation... my mum ended up on the phone with this bloke who was clearly trying to scam her. They convinced her to install TeamViewer and then asked her to enter some codes on her laptop, which she did. It went on for nearly two hours until I shouted out that we knew the number was dodgy, and then he just hung up. There’s no way to uninstall the program she downloaded either, which is worrying. Anyone got advice on how to get rid of it? The guy claimed his name was John and sounded Indian.

Got a call today, 19th Jan, from someone called Britney Martin, Ref 9464, claiming to work for BT. She told me my internet was gonna drop out in a couple of days because of “constant error reports.” I immediately knew it was dodgy and said I had another appointment. She then asked me to ring her back on 02032866573. As I was writing this, another call came through from a bloke also pretending to be from BT, warning me my broadband was about to fail. When I called him out, he just hung up. Both had distinct Asian accents. Watch out for this scam!

Got a call from a woman with a strong Asian accent who said her name was "Andrea Wilson" and claimed to be from BT. She told me my internet wasn’t secure and asked if I could check my computer or laptop. She kept saying it wasn’t a scam and insisted it was a genuine BT call. But then she couldn’t confirm my BT customer number. Honestly, why hasn’t BT done something about this yet? These dodgy calls have been happening for ages now.

Just got a ring from this number as well. Told the bloke on the line that if he wanted to pretend he worked for BT, he should really brush up on his English first. Honestly, even the real BT call centres speak better than that! Since this number’s out there now, you'd think it'd be pretty straightforward to track down who’s behind it. But I guess we'll see. Typical, innit.

For ages now, I've been getting calls from someone saying he’s Lawrence Watson claiming to be with BT. It’s pretty obvious it’s a scam by now. Honestly, these sorts of calls should be banned completely.

Had a call from this number telling me my internet would be cut off for a week and that they needed to access my computer to check if it’d cause problems. I pretended I couldn’t catch everything and asked them to give me a number to ring back. Definitely a scam.

I just got a call from someone claiming to be from BT, calling from 02032877573, and the bloke said his name was Jack Wilson. They started asking for my address and the name on the account, then tried to convince me they’d prove who they were by giving me a unique reference number that only they and I would know. I told them it didn’t make sense - I’d need to know the actual reference number before trusting the call. I wasn’t about to log into anything until they proved who they really were, so I ended the call. He kept going on and on, but the name Jack Wilson combined with his Asian accent made me instantly suspicious. Definitely don’t bother engaging with these sorts of callers.

Got a call from this number saying my internet would be cut off in a couple of hours. I asked for a contact number to ring back because it didn’t seem like a proper BT call. They didn’t ask any security questions, which was fishy. The bloke gave me this number and said his name was Adam Smith - something felt off. Sure enough, it turned out to be a scam!

Got a call from this number, a lady with a noticeable foreign accent was on the other end. She claimed there were some errors detected on my BT router and asked if I could try logging into it remotely. I told her I wasn’t able to do that just then, but asked if she could provide her contact details so I could call back later. She gave me this number and said her name was Clara Watson, mentioning a control number CW 44418. After hanging up, I looked up the number to see if it was legit.

Hey everyone, got a call from someone pretending to be from BT support, just like what other folks have mentioned here. This bloke said my Internet was going to be cut off for three weeks. He said his name was Jack Wilson or something like that. When I asked which company provides my Internet, he couldn’t answer. These types are just scamming people who don’t know any better, trying to get into their computers. Honestly, steer clear of them!

Got a call saying it’s BT about my computer. Told them it takes ages, like 15 minutes just to boot up, and that I’d ring them back later. I reckon I’ll keep saying the same thing every time they ring - might as well waste their time like they try to waste mine! Sad really, these poor folks are probably just stuck reading from a script all day.

Received a call saying my router was compromised. When I rang back, someone claiming to be from BT answered amidst background noise. They confirmed the caller's name, but things felt off. So, I got a call earlier from a bloke with an Asian accent claiming he was from BT. He told me my computer was infected with a virus and that it was at risk. When I asked for proof of who he was, he gave me an employee ID, something like BTBW2190, and said his name was Peter Williams. He also said I could ring his supervisor on 02032877573 if I wanted to check. Naturally, I looked the number up on Google and saw it was linked to scams. Obviously, I didn’t bother calling them back.

Back in December 2017, I got a call from a bloke with an Asian accent, and there was loads of noise in the background. He claimed my BT internet was about to be disconnected in a couple of hours due to some dodgy downloads. Said he could fix it for me immediately by creating a secure link. He wanted me to get on my PC, but I wasn’t having any of it. Then he passed me over to a “supervisor” who basically repeated the same line. The guy gave his name as Alex Wilson and gave me a phone number: 02032877573. He told me to hit Ctrl+R on my keyboard and asked what popped up. Instead of following his instructions, I looked up that number and found out it was linked to a scam. When I told him that, he just disconnected.

Yesterday, my mum got a call so I decided to answer it. The bloke said his name was Max Dicosta when I asked who was calling and gave me a number, claiming he was ringing from BT. I checked by dialling 1471 and got the number 02397844432. I played along for a while, saying I was worried someone had hacked my internet, and then mentioned she doesn’t even use the internet (which is true). Right after that, he just hung up! She’s had loads of calls like this before and doesn’t even have BT as her provider.

Someone saying he was from BT rang me with a similar tale. I got a call from someone claiming to be Alex Wilson, which sounded odd since the voice was clearly Asian and didn’t match the name. When I asked for proof he was really from BT, he said he knew my account number but never actually told me what it was. I told him I’d ring back when it suits me. I doubt he’s going to get that call anytime soon.

Got a call earlier today from a woman claiming her name was Danielle Burn, she’s from India, apparently. She wanted to get into our laptop remotely. While she was chatting away, I quickly looked up BT Openreach to check our connection and saw everything was perfectly fine. That’s when I decided to end the call. She kept pushing and had answers that seemed legit, it was clearly a well thought out con. If you ring 0203 2877573, someone picks up almost straight away which is a dead giveaway - normally you sit through loads of menus and options before reaching any real person!

Had a call from someone named 'Marcus Debrosky', sounded like they weren’t a native English speaker and there was some noise in the background. He said that there was some interference caused by outside sources whenever the BT router was switched on. Claimed they needed to shut it down and start it up again. Bit of a strange conversation, so I checked around and found this website and blog to get some answers.

Received a call from a bloke called Rooney Adam, sounds like a proper name. He said he was from BT and told me that 761 people were using our broadband! Don’t know how he got that info, made me chuckle honestly. Wanted me to let him take control of my computer which was an obvious con. This was the first time I’d had a call from that number, but another one (0230 967 9609) kept ringing me all week about the same thing. Some bloke called "John Barker" rang me sounding like he was standing in a noisy train station, speaking with a weird foreign accent. He said there was an issue with my broadband and that he had to block my IP because of interference. Sensing it was dodgy, I asked if I could ring him back later, and he gave me the number 0203 2877 573, but told me to keep it secret and only share it with family. He couldn’t provide any case number or reference either. Then, when I ended the call insisting there was no problem, he had the nerve to ring me back asking why I’d hung up! Bleedin' cheek.

Today my dad got a call from a guy called ‘Eric’ who spoke with a really thick Asian accent. He said there was an issue with my dad’s email and asked him to enable it so he could fix the problem. Since my dad actually struggles with his internet, I was around to hear the call and decided to check the number online just in case.

Over the past couple of days, I've had three calls from someone claiming to be from BT’s Technical department at 81 Newgate Street using this number. They told me that foreign users were accessing my IP address and threatened to cut off my internet if I didn't let them fix it. They wanted me to open up netstat, showing some foreign IPs, then asked me to start Teamviewer. I ended the call straight away and called BT myself. This is definitely a scam - BT don’t make calls about technical problems like that.

Don’t trust them at all, it’s definitely a scam! I got a phone call from someone going by ‘Luke Wilson’, which seemed odd because he had a really thick Asian accent. Also, we don’t even use BT here, we’re Virgin Media customers. Total nonsense.

My dad, who’s not too tech-savvy and uses Virgin, got a call about some issue with his internet. It threw him off a bit since he’s sure there’s no problem. He can't really recall much more about the call now.

I got a call from someone named Victor Smith who said he was from BT tech support, telling me there was something dodgy going on with my phone line. I told him I’d ring back later and asked for his contact number. I looked it up online afterwards and came across this post. Cheers for putting this scam out there!

I received a rather dubious call from an unrecognised number, claiming to be from BT's technical support team. The chap, who introduced himself as "Bryland Martin," warned me that my internet service would be cut off for the following month. When I asked for a callback number, he provided me with one. Curious, I rang back using another device and was greeted by a gentleman with an Indian accent, who said he was "Alex," a senior manager at BT. Honestly, it felt like a proper con.

Got a call the other day on a different line from a bloke with a thick Indian accent, and you could hear loads of noise like a busy call centre in the background. He claimed to be from BT Openreach and said there was an issue with my internet connection. I wasn’t buying it, and he told me to ring BT Openreach's customer care on a number he gave, introducing himself as Eric Wilson. I decided not to bother calling back.

Some bloke called Max Dicosta or something like that rang me with a thick Asian accent, going on about my modem being hacked or some nonsense. I got his name and number but surprise, surprise, it was the same rubbish as before. Why does BT let these calls keep happening? Oh wait, every time they buzz, BT probably gets paid. Classic.

I hate to admit it, but I got tricked by this scam because my internet has been acting up and I don’t really understand much about tech stuff. Lost £3500 because of it. Now I’m just crossing my fingers that my bank will be able to get the cash back for me.

I got a call from someone called "John Wilson" who spoke with a strong Indian accent. He said he was from BT's technical support and Openreach, telling me my router was showing error warnings and someone was trying to hack into my internet. Since my internet’s been patchy lately, I almost trusted him. He asked me to log onto my computer, but I said no. He gave me a number to ring back, but after seeing loads of similar scams online, I just ignored it.

Really glad I took a moment to investigate. Someone calling themselves "Hazel Smith" told me there was an issue with my BT line and asked me to open my laptop so they could fix it remotely. It’s scary to find out that this kind of thing has been happening for quite a while. BT definitely should do something about it.

Someone called me and said her name was Daisy, which struck me as odd since her accent wasn’t English at all. It’s baffling why BT isn’t doing more about these annoying calls. They should really be doing something since people who are more vulnerable could easily get caught out. BT, get on it!

Got a call from someone named "Eric," sounded Indian and claimed to be from BT. He said there was an issue with my email and wanted me to press "Windows key"-R on my computer. I asked him for his callback number, which he gave me. A quick look online showed me it was a scam. Told him I knew it was dodgy, but he stayed on the line trying to convince me.

Got calls from them twice this morning. They left a number saying 17 folks are supposedly on my line and told me to ring back. When I called, some bloke named Joy answered, said he was from BT with an id 00659 or something. Had a look at my modem, only two devices connected, both mine. Like people said before, BT sorted this mess out already.

Got a call from a different number today, but when I pushed back, they gave me this one to ring them on. It’s a scam crew speaking with Indian accents, claiming to be from BT Openreach. They try to convince you by saying they know your CLSID, but that number isn’t unique at all - every computer shares the same CLSID. Total con.

Got a call from a bloke named Kevin who spoke with an Indian accent, claiming to be from BT’s Tech Dept. He said there were some unusual actions happening on my broadband account. I was suspicious and asked for a phone number to call him back on, just to be sure. He gave me 02032877573 and said he was based at 81 Newgate Station. When I looked up that number online, I found loads of warnings about it being a scam.

Got two calls from this number earlier today. The first one was some bloke pretending to be from BT saying there was unauthorised access on my internet. I told him straight up I wasn’t buying it and doubted he was even from BT. He gave me a number, 020 328 77573, to ring back, but I told him I wasn’t bothered and ended the call. Barely a minute later, the same number rang again but I didn’t pick up and he left no message. Just out of curiosity, I phoned that number he gave me and from the background noise it sounded like a call centre. Someone answered with a quick “BT” too. I’ve just gone ahead and blocked the number now.

Got a call from someone claiming to be the "BT Technical Support", saying my router was showing errors and my PC was at risk of being hacked. While still on the line, I quickly checked the number online and found it was dodgy. I told the guy, who introduced himself as Daniel DeSouza (and sounded to me like he was from Asia), that he was talking nonsense. He got really rude and started threatening me, saying he'd cut off my internet right away and that I'd have to ring BT to get it sorted. When I told him again he was full of it, he just hung up. Proper scam, beware!

Got a call from an Asian bloke who kept switching between the names Mick and Kevin, or some weird mix of the two. He wanted me to run commands on my computer so he could ‘fix the issue’ by accessing it remotely. I was wary right away but played along for a bit to see where it went. Eventually, I asked what his success rate was and mentioned it was a pity we couldn’t chat longer, so he’d have less time to try his luck on people who might fall for it. I flat out told him I thought he was a con, but he didn’t seem fussed and just told me to hang up if I wasn’t convinced. Felt dodgy from the get-go. Seriously, never let anyone get into your devices unless you totally trust who they are and what they want. If you’re unsure, tell them to ring back later after you’ve checked them out. Usually, they won’t bother calling again - stay sharp!

This number called me a few times over the last few days, about three times I think. A guy with an Indian accent said he was from BT and claimed someone was messing with my IP address. He told me to sit at my computer and log in, then said he’d connect me to their tech support team. When I asked for a callback, he gave me the same number that called me. Feels a bit dodgy, like a scam to me.

I got a call saying my line had 40 users and they’d cut me off soon. I logged into my Bt account and checked, Bt only calls from 0800 numbers. I reported this dodgy number to them. Today I got a call from this number, an Asian bloke claiming to be from British Telecom tech support. He wanted to speak to whoever owns the phone. When I asked his name, he said Kev or Kevin, but there was loads of chatter in the background like he was calling from some call centre. He told me there was an issue with my router and that I should be at my computer. I asked for his direct number and he gave me this one. I told him I had to hang up because it sounded dodgy. This is the second time in three weeks I've had a call from someone pretending to be BT. The first time was from a different number, and they warned my router would be switched off in two hours. We reported that number to our provider and they blocked it, but seems like these scammers keep changing their numbers.

A guy claiming to be from BT rang me for the fourth time in about a month, all saying the same thing - that my computer is full of viruses or something like that. I usually just tell them to shove off ’cause I don’t even have a BT contract. But this time I played along a bit. When he tried to get me to show him my keyboard and I realised it wasn’t a Microsoft but a Mac keyboard, he said he’d pass me on to someone who can help with Macs. I wasn’t having any of it and asked for the senior manager’s name and number to sort it properly. He couldn’t give me a name but did give me a phone number: 0203 2877 573, and said his name was James Wilson, Junior Technician. I put the number into a reverse look-up and this website popped up full of loads of people saying they’d got the same scam calls. Really want to know how we can get this stopped!

I just got a ring from a bloke with an Asian accent talking from what sounded like a busy call centre. He said he was Jason with BT and warned me my broadband would be disconnected for a week. When I told him to prove he was legit, he claimed to have all my details. So, I asked him to recite the info he had on me, but he totally messed up my name and address. Had a call from an Asian gentleman claiming to be Jack from BT around 11 this morning. He said there was some issue with my router or server caused by an attempted hack. Bit ironic, that. He asked me to sit at my computer and log in so he could fix the problem. I told him I was recording the call and asked for his phone number to verify things before calling back. To my surprise, he actually gave me the number mentioned here and then ended the call.

Over the past week, I’ve had a few calls from a man claiming to be Sam Wilson, supposedly working for BT. He said there was an issue with my internet, especially when I tried to check my emails. He asked me to let him log into my computer remotely to sort it out. I said no and asked him to prove he was really from BT. Just got a call a little while ago, and like others here, they tried to trick me into letting them control my Mac through TeamViewer. The guy claimed he was from BT, but we actually use Sky. When I questioned that, he said BT rents their gear from Sky or something like that, which didn’t sound right at all. They warned me they'd cut off my internet for two weeks unless I gave them access to fix an IP address issue - sounded totally made up. I’m going to ring Sky myself to check if they know anything about this scam. The number they told me to call was suspicious, and like another person said here, the operator on the line was named Eric - definitely felt dodgy. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences!

Had a call minutes ago from someone called Peter Walking, but couldn’t really catch what he was saying. Claimed to be with BT and told us our broadband might be hacked, then asked how many devices we had connected. It sounded fishy so I told him we’d ring back. Today, I got three calls from this number, with someone pretending to be from BT tech support saying they were helping with a hacking issue on my internet, mentioning some kind of Malaysian bug. They wanted me to switch on my computer, log into broadband, then press the windows and ctrl keys with R. I refused and asked them for some proof they worked for BT. They gave me the same number shown here. It sounded genuine since we’ve had broadband and email issues recently and were expecting a call from BT. One thing that gave it away as a scam was the loud chatter in the background like a busy call centre. They all spoke with thick Asian accents but used English names, Hazel Smith being one they used a lot.

A man named Kenneth Green called me, speaking with an Asian accent, claiming to be from BT Openreach and some sort of Security team. He said my computer was infected and gave me a CLSID number, though I didn’t verify it then and there. He was quite persistent about us calling back straight away, but I told him that wasn't possible as my husband wasn’t home. He left me that number above. Got a call from someone named Cynthia Parker with an Asian accent about a similar issue. My wife took the number and I rang back as the account owner but felt a bit iffy about it. She said I had to be in front of a computer or laptop so she could help stop people from using my router? I explained I couldn’t do it at that moment. Later, she called again but introduced herself as Hazel. I asked to speak to Cynthia, and then she put me through to ‘Cynthia’ again, but clearly the same lady just using a different name. That’s when I told her it sounded like a scam and ended the call straight away.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from BT, saying there was a problem with my router and they’d have to disconnect my internet. The bloke called himself Dave and gave me a number 02032877573 to call back. Just a heads up - if your internet provider is anything like Sky, Talk Talk or PlusNet, BT wouldn’t be ringing you up about your service. So don’t bother taking it seriously, and don’t be afraid to be a bit cheeky with them!

I just got a call from someone named Hazel Smith with an Asian accent, saying she was from BT with ID 17605. She claimed there was unauthorised access to my router and insisted I needed to get on my laptop to block some IP addresses quickly, or else BT would shut off my internet within half an hour. Hazel promised she’d guide me through the whole thing over the phone so my connection would stay safe. But then when I asked her to send me the info by email, she said that wasn’t possible - that’s when I realised something was off, especially since BT isn’t actually my provider. When I questioned Hazel about it, she gave me this number to call back urgently, but honestly, I’m not sure if I’ll bother. Big thanks to everyone posting on this site, helped me steer clear of that dodgy trick.
