I got a robocall claiming to be from HMRC about some fraud case. It told me to press 1 to connect with an agent, warning that if I didn't, I’d be arrested right away. Seemed totally dodgy to me.

I got a call from a man’s voice, sounded like it was a robot, saying he was from HMRC. The tone was really nasty and intimidating. The message was just like what others have said about these HMRC scams. Don’t ever hand over any info to them, even if they claim they’re from HMRC!

On the 31st of October around midday, I got a voicemail from a Claire Williams, it was a bit scary and she said not to ignore it. It felt like it really related to what I was dealing with. I decided to call back and ended up chatting with a Michael Carter. After a good six hours of convincing from him and getting me to log into what seemed like the real HMRC site, I ended up paying. Honestly, I can't believe I was fooled. If only I’d known this was a scam earlier. I've now reported everything to Action Fraud.

Got a call from 02032871819, some "officer claire williams" saying they were from HMRC and threatening me to call back or else face some sort of "consequences". Total scam, no doubt. It’s baffling how the police and BT don’t seem to do anything about these calls. Seriously, HMRC would never ring you like that, so don’t even bother calling them back.

This is another obvious scam, just like the others Claire mentioned. They say they're from HMRC and try to scare you with threats. It’s honestly disgusting! I really hope these scammers get nabbed soon because so many people who are already struggling with tough times are being targeted by them. If anyone here has connections with the police or works in security, please forward this number to the fraud department. There’s a massive list of complaints attached. Cheers!

Just like what others have mentioned, I got a call from someone claiming to be Claire from HMRC about some urgent problem that needed sorting quick or there’d be trouble. Luckily it was my work phone, which isn’t even on any official list, so I figured it wasn’t meant for me or anyone I know. Total scam, watch out!

Today about 2:50pm, I got a call with a robotic female voice saying she was Officer Claire Williams from HMRC. She gave the number 0203 287 1819, saying it was urgent. The message warned that if I didn’t ring back or get in touch with my lawyer, I should prepare for serious legal trouble. I've forwarded all this info to [email protected].

My husband got a call at his work about a supposed lawsuit for a £4,000 tax debt. He instantly knew it was dodgy. When I rang back, the woman on the other end refused to answer anything and hung up as soon as I said I'd report her. I then contacted BT, and they told me it’s a known scam with loads of others reporting it. The tax office will never connect you directly like that, always with option menus first, and their calls come from within the UK, not places like India - the woman who called was Indian. Watch out for calls like this!

Sounds like a total scam or phishing attempt to me. Be careful! If you’re unsure, it’s best to ring HMRC straight from the number on their official .gov site. I never pick up calls from numbers I don't recognise anymore. If it’s something important, they’ll leave a message or send a letter. HMRC definitely don’t ring out of the blue, they always write first. You should report suspicious calls to the police.

Just got a call from these lot with the usual tale - something about a warrant for my arrest, they said they’d sent court papers but I wasn’t in to get them. When I questioned who they were, they rang me back from what looked like the HMRC number to 'prove' their identity. Foolishly, I ended up paying them!!!!!!! They kept me waiting on the line for ages, and when I started doubting them, they switched up their tone - that’s when it clicked it was all a scam. Should’ve definitely checked the number first!

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, real pushy, kept saying I owed loads to the tax man and that I’d be in court tomorrow with a £25,000 penalty if I didn’t pay immediately. They didn’t ask any security questions, just tried to scare me silly. Kept pressuring me for money. Seriously, don’t ring that number back.
