I had a pretty similar run-in to the one mentioned back on 5/01/2018. I was quite clear about what I thought of the whole thing, but the caller just kept pushing - must be really tough not to take a hint! I’d chatted with BT before, and they said stuff like this isn’t how they’d handle things at all.

got a call saying there was a problem with my internet and my router needed resetting by bt. i asked for the callers number and he gave me this one. as soon as i told him i didn’t have the internet explorer icon on my computer, he just ended the call. seems like he was trying to get remote access next or something.

I received a phone call from someone named Robin Watson purporting to be from BT. What a load of nonsense! It's clearly a scam. They say your computer's got issues and can’t wait to guide you in 'fixing' it. To do that, they’ll try to persuade you to download some software called 'Teamworks', which gives them access to your screen. Then, they’ll urge you to log into your emails and bank accounts, presenting some phoney error logs and walking you through their dubious ‘fixes’. Honestly, it’s all just a load of hot air-what they truly want is your banking credentials to siphon off your hard-earned cash. IT'S AN ABSOLUTE SCAM! I managed to keep 'Robin Watson' on the line for nearly 15 minutes while I pretended my computer was sluggish, all the while telling him I was not particularly tech-savvy and needed step-by-step help. Eventually, I cottoned on to his ruse, and when I confronted him about his intentions, he had the audacity to ask why I was wasting his time! He got quite rude after that... I couldn’t help but chuckle-I turned the tables on him!

I received a phone call from a chap claiming to be "Michael Williams" and supposedly representing BT, saying they were trying to protect me from hackers. I couldn't help but laugh when I pointed out that they ought to be targeting the hackers rather than me! He provided a phone number, 0203 239 5607, but when I checked it via 1471, it showed up as 01421 584637-complete nonsense if you ask me. He insisted I sit down at my computer and power it up, which was when I decided enough was enough and ended the call. Oh, and it was evident he was phoning from somewhere in the Indian subcontinent-there was a noticeable satellite delay, and he struggled to pronounce Williams correctly; after three attempts, I had to ask him to spell it out for me!

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me as others have mentioned here. It was just like those other stories!

some guy rang me saying he was from BT, but it was clear he was working out of a call centre in india from the way he spoke and the noise in the background. i asked him for a number and he gave me one, but it was bogus obviously.

I just had a rather dubious phone call from someone masquerading as a BT technician. They claimed that my email had been compromised by a nasty virus. The chap then directed me to run some W3C validation tool that, according to him, would reveal infections in various accounts-Facebook, email, Amazon, the BBC, and get this... even my bank details. To add to the absurdity, they pressed me to download TeamViewer to supposedly help fix the issue and access my information. When I confronted him, asking for verification of his credentials, he gave me a number to ring back-0203-239-5607, insisting it was a BT line. Let me assure you, BT would never reach out like this! The best course of action is to hang up right away. The moment I caught on to their scam, they turned aggressive. Quite shocking, really!

someone rang pretending to be from bt, saying they were going to disconnect our broadband for a whole week due to ‘attacks’ on our computers. problem is, we don’t even have any pcs, just ipads. when i asked them to prove who they were, they handed me a number to call back. didn’t bother ringing it, seemed like a total scam to me.

Someone rang me from this number saying they were with BT and that my broadband had gone 'expired'. They said they could sort out renewing it for me. I decided to call BT back from a separate phone just to check, thinking maybe they were keeping my line busy. Turns out, the whole thing was just a scam.
