this number has called both my accounting company and some of our customers with some really nasty threats. they were quite pushy, insisting we owed tax to hmrc and claiming imprisonment was around the corner if we didn't pay up fast. honestly, if hmrc had any issues with you owing money, they’d start by sending official letters, maybe hand it over to a debt agency, but calling you directly like that? highly unlikely. if you’re unsure, best to contact hmrc on the official helplines listed on the gov.uk site to be sure.
