I got a call from a woman who sounded a bit anxious, saying she was from HMRC and wanted to speak to whoever handles 'Tax Relief and Capital Allowances'. When I asked why she didn’t know the name, she said HMRC doesn’t share that info. I figured it might be some kind of survey, so I told her I wasn’t interested and ended the call. Looking back, I probably should have kept chatting since I’m an accountant - could’ve been a laugh. But for most people who aren’t as clued up about scams, this could be quite risky, so I’ve flagged it as suspicious.

I received a rather unsettling voicemail today, featuring a rather mechanised voice claiming that I was under investigation for something tax-related, and that my residence was being watched. The message urged me to press 1 to speak with a so-called case worker about this supposed tax evasion matter. It's a hazardous scam, I tell you! Do take care out there!
