I’ve had a similar experience. Received a call from someone claiming to be 'Officer Steve White' at HMRC regarding some supposed illegal dealings. The voice had a mixed American/South Asian accent and he used rather intimidating language, insisting I must return the call to the number provided. I wouldn't dream of calling back or placing any trust in that!
