My mother-in-law, who’s quite vulnerable, got a phone call demanding £1800. It really upset her, and then the caller suddenly changed their story, saying they’d cancel the debt. My husband rang them back and it definitely sounded like some sort of call centre in India. We’re planning to report this to HMRC.

Got a call from these lot just now, felt proper anxious so rang them back immediately. The line was awful and there was an Indian bloke on the other end who refused to share any info. He kept telling me I didn’t know how to chat to an officer, yet wouldn’t say who he was or give a proper number. Definitely shouldn’t have bothered calling back, seems like a total scam. Foolish me!
