Got a call from this number but no one spoke. Apparently, a message was dropped on my answerphone from someone saying they were my case officer. That was all, no other details.

When I got back home, I decided to look up the number that had called me. A foreign individual picked up and claimed to be from HMRC, saying there was an issue regarding my account. He inquired if I needed assistance. I responded that it was his number that rang me, and then, just like that, the line went dead. I didn’t share any information whatsoever. Just a word of caution-these scammers need to be put in their place!

Got a call from this number claiming I had unpaid tax. The woman said her name was Lisa and mentioned she was handling my case. She gave me some ref number, K909743, and an ID: HM 79005. When I asked her to send proof before doing anything, she started getting rude and aggressive. She threatened to freeze my bank account and passport. I hung up straight away. I received a voicemail instructing me to press 1, which I did. Within a mere 20 seconds, I was engaged in conversation - a clear warning sign, as it’s well known that HMRC typically takes a bit longer to get through. I mentioned that I would disconnect if they requested my bank details, and just like that, they cut the call. It’s obvious these folks are up to no good.

My mum, who’s 84, got called by these people with the exact same spiel. She was proper anxious about it, had me convinced she thought it was legit. Took a lot of persuading to get her to see it was just a scam. Her number isn’t even listed anywhere. It’s awful how they manage to keep doing this stuff.

Over the past couple of days, I've had three calls from numbers I didn’t recognise. I never pick up calls from unknown numbers anyway, and thankfully my phone shows who’s calling before I answer. The messages left on my answerphone all follow the same script as others have mentioned - they claim HMRC is suing me and tell me to press 2 to speak to a caseworker. It’s pretty alarming and honestly, these annoying calls need to be put to an end.

In the past day alone, my phone has buzzed with three calls that set my nerves on edge. Two of them left voicemails, claiming to be from HMRC, and ominously warned me about a lawsuit filed against me. They insisted I press 1 to be connected to a case officer. The third call was particularly alarming; when I picked up, they insisted it was urgent and again urged me to press 1. Naturally, I refused and decided to trace the number using 1471. It’s been quite unsettling, and something really ought to be done to put an end to this sort of thing!

Just got a call like that myself. I'm thinking of reporting it to action fraud but honestly, from what I've seen, it feels pointless. The police usually don't get fraud cases and don't seem bothered by them at all.

They actually gave me an official HMRC contact number, but when I called, they told me it sounded like a scam and they had no case open against me.

got a call from someone saying hmrc has taken legal action against me. total nonsense - hmrc dont ever get in touch like that without warning or trying to sort things out first. ive always been 100% legit with them. this sounds like a phishing scam or maybe even fraud. best to just block it or report it on the police fraud website at www.actionfraud.police.uk, which is easy to use and fast too.
