So, picture this: I was working from home, when my phone received one of those endlessly irritating calls. As soon as I picked up, I cut him short by saying, "Hold on just a second there, mate! You’ve dialled a Ministry of Defence number, and I need your name, date of birth, and home address right now.” Would you believe it? I never heard from that caller again!

No idea where they’re pulling their info from but they use a few different names. I just tell them no one with that name lives here and then end the call. They sneakily ring back after a bit but I just ignore it. The voice sounded like it was from a call centre in India. Loved the suggestion from the 16th Feb comment about speaking another language, might give that a go when they call again.

Didn’t give them any bank or private info though, as it felt dodgy so I looked it up online. I was worried I might’ve been billed, even though it was on my landline, so I rang BT. I've just had a couple of phone calls from this number, with the caller claiming to represent Vodafone. They knew my name and insisted, as a long-standing customer, that I could upgrade my phone prematurely - a whole 14 months ahead of schedule! I started to get uneasy when they requested my bank details, especially since Vodafone already holds that information. The bloke had a thick accent, likely Pakistani, and was incredibly pushy. When I expressed my concerns and suggested it might be a scam, he offered for me to chat with his 'manager' to alleviate my worries. I flatly declined. I quickly contacted Vodafone myself, only to be told it was indeed a scam. They even quizzed me about my online activities on sites like eBay and Amazon. Regrettably, I did share my name and address along with a few other bits of info, but thankfully, I held back my banking details. Apparently, he was gearing up for a credit check. Got a call from someone pretending to be Vodafone, sounded like a dodgy chinese bloke with a weird american accent. He offered me a contract and said they'd deliver it the next day. Then he started asking for my account number, sort code and even my card details! Turns out these muppets are linked to something called amazeloans and debtcompare, dodgy sites if you ask me. When I inquired how they acquired my phone number and requested to finish my conversation, the caller became exceedingly rude and abruptly ended the call.
