I'm seriously thinking of ditching my phone because of all these calls about things like window replacements, solar panel deals, PPI claims, housewarming invites, random surveys, and even fake holiday wins from contests I never entered. I got a call from this exact number earlier, with someone speaking in an Asian accent claiming to be from the NATIONWIDE ADVICE BUREAU. They actually knew my name, which made me suspicious, so I quickly ended the call. Just before this, I’d done a big transaction with Nationwide so I was quite anxious and decided to ring up Nationwide’s main office. They assured me there’s been no dodgy activity on my account or credit card. Tried calling the 0199 number back but it just wouldn’t go through. Seems like a pretty rubbish scam to me. Somebody called me from a number that was hidden, how sneaky is that? The lady on the line was American and claimed to be from the National Advice Bureau. She told me someone at my address was involved in an accident. I didn’t buy it and told her we’re registered with TPS. Ended up raising my voice a bit. We have a phone that blocks certain numbers but useless if they don’t show up. And if it’s an international call, blocking’s near impossible - though I heard BT might be sorting that soon. On Saturday 26 April 2014 at about 10:48, I got a call from a bloke calling himself 'Stephen', speaking with a thick Indian accent, claiming to be from the "National Bureau". He said someone in my family had had an accident within the last three years, which is complete rubbish. I asked him for his contact number since he apparently already had our info. Each time I requested the number, he'd dodge by asking if the accident story was correct. This back and forth happened 3 times, and before I could mention we’re on the TPS list, he hung up. I tried checking the number on 1471, called it back, but it said the number isn’t in service. Total waste of time.

Today, I got a call from this number and it was some bloke with a funny accent asking for my stepdad. He went, “Is meester ******** there?” I said no straight away and he just cut the call off, didn’t ask to call back or take a message or anything, just dropped it. Honestly, the flood of scam calls we get is down to banks, credit card firms, insurance providers and the like chucking our info onto mailing lists and selling it to anyone willing to pay a few quid. They shouldn’t be allowed to do that, it’s got to be against the law.

He claimed I’d been in an accident within the past three years and that I was due £2000 compensation. Complete rubbish, I haven’t had any accidents. What was worse, he didn’t even have any details about the supposed claim - no car make or registration or anything. I told him I’m actually with the Police Fraud Unit and that I’ll be looking into him tomorrow. Let’s just say he wasn’t too keen on that idea! Got a ring from this number earlier. I told the person on the other end that I’m signed up with the TPS and shouldn’t be getting calls like this. Asked them to take me off their dialling list straight away. Afterwards, I filed a complaint with the TPS, so fingers crossed I won’t be hearing from them again.

Today I got a call from this number, some bloke with an Asian accent who said he was from a solicitor. He was asking my husband about a car crash that supposedly happened at our place within the last three years. The guy’s name was Fred or something. My husband wasn’t having any of it and told him off pretty sharp! Hahaha, what a joke.

My mother-in-law’s on the TPS list due to her serious hearing problems, yet she got a call from this number. My wife answered and it was a woman with a foreign accent asking about a car crash. When my wife questioned how they got the number, the caller just ended the call. It’s quite upsetting, especially for someone 92 years old who has never driven a car!

Got a call on my landline right before 6pm today, 26th March, but didn’t pick up. Used 1471 to see the number and then looked it up on the internet. Honestly, glad I didn’t bother answering. Feels like keeping a landline nowadays is a bit pointless with all these dodgy calls. Hope someone takes action to put a stop to them.

Got a call where the person wanted me to verify my name, but I didn’t give it and instead asked who they were, then they just ended the call. I've had similar ones before claiming it was regarding a car crash, which I haven't been in. Really don't want to get these sorts of calls anymore.

I wonder why the Police don't look into this, even though they say they're breaking the Data Protection Act by sharing private phone numbers? It seems odd they make that claim but never follow up with any proper investigation.

Earlier today, I got a ring from a woman who had an Asian accent. She claimed to be from some company called Claims Direct. She asked if I'd been involved in a small accident. I asked why she needed to know and she said it was some kind of verification. When I asked when the accident happened, she just said I should already know. I told her if she really knew, why was she bothering to call me? Unless she’s just randomly dialling numbers off the phone book. A few days back, a man with an Asian accent called me too, talking about some accident in the past two years. Thing is, I don’t recall any accident at all in that time. Well, it’s a bit of a break from all those boiler and kitchen replacement calls, I suppose!

Just got a call like this myself, and I'm on the TPS list too. This makes the third or fourth time in a couple of weeks from the same outfit. The caller had a thick Asian accent, which was a bit unsettling. What freaked me out was that he mentioned other family members’ names! He claimed someone had made a claim and was due some money. I decided to humour him for a bit and played some Indian music quietly on my laptop. I got him to say “Vednesday” about four times, plus “Vhen” and “Vhy”. Then he lost it and called me a bloody “time vaster”. I couldn’t help but laugh and corrected him, “No, it’s time waster, not vaster!” That really set him off, and he started hurling all sorts of insults my way. Hilarious but also quite rude!
