When I get a call from an unknown number and I'm wondering who it might be, I pick up but stay silent. Usually, after a second or two, I just hear a click and then nothing. If I catch lots of noise or people talking in the background, I just end the call straight away. If it’s a legit call, they’ll drop a voicemail anyway.

Got a call from 01952 416418, some robotic voice warned me my internet would be cut off for illegal stuff and told me to “press 1 for executive.” Then it just dropped the call mid-message. Sounds like a scam to either get me to ring a premium number or steal my info. They phoned me first at 8am, then again at 10:15. New tech means more scammers around, and something should be done about it.

Got a call on my phone from someone talking about a company I ran ages ago. I told them I sold it about three years back. They said they’d remove my info from their list. Got a random call out of the blue and it went straight to voicemail. Thought someone left a message but all I got was the background noise of a busy sales team, no real message at all. It was a telemarketer, calling to push a mobile contract. Said they were connected with Vodafone but only had a bit of my personal info. When I asked where they got my details from, they couldn't say. Then they just hung up after I told them they're keeping my data without permission.

I picked up the phone and the person on the other end didn’t even say who they were. They just started talking about some upgrade offer with a free tablet, so I listened for a bit. They couldn’t even tell me which network I was with. When I mentioned I’m with O2, they kept going on about EE. I told them if they claim to work with all the networks, they should know my network and how much longer I have on my contract, but they didn’t even know my name! Honestly, I’d avoid them at all costs - feels like a scam just to keep you calling back. If they really wanted my business, they’d get in touch properly. O2 themselves weren’t much better; they seemed clueless about the third parties they use. So basically, you can’t trust any of them not to try and take advantage.

It wasn’t until they called me about the fifth time that I finally picked up, feeling pretty annoyed with the bloke on the other end. Then he told me they were offering a free phone, so I decided to hear him out and do a bit more digging. In the end, I actually got the free phone, and when they ask for your info, it’s just so they can top up your account with £10.50 every month. I got the handset and, even now, two months later, haven’t paid a thing. So yeah, after trying to find something bad to say about them, I ended up with a pretty decent service.
