I had a call from someone claiming to be with a well-known national business that lots of people probably use, but I reckoned it was just a scammer in disguise.

i tried to update my comment but couldnt. they claimed to be from the bt telephone preference service, but ive not been a bt customer for years, ive always paid my phone bills through direct debit elsewhere.

Spoke to someone who claimed they were from BT and said I pay by direct debit. When I asked who exactly I was paying, they said BT. Seriously? Haven't been a BT customer for years!

Don't pick up, this has got to be a phishing attempt. Just block the number straight away.

Answered the phone, but nothing but silence. Sounds like they’re just scanning for live numbers to hit up in the future. I’ve marked it as unknown for now, might be annoying later on, maybe even scam calls. Best to stay cautious and treat it as suspicious.
