Got a call from 01942316530 around lunchtime today, but as soon as the answerphone picked up, the line just went silent. On my phone screen, under their number it said 'leaving a message', but even after six hours, whoever it is is still "leaving a message"! Now my phone won’t dial out and no calls are coming in either. I’m with TalkTalk and they’re trying to fix it, but at 90 years old, I really don’t need all this hassle. How can I get this sorted? Any advice please!

The caller said they were from Allansons Solicitors in Wigan, or so they claimed. It genuinely sounded like a call centre, maybe ringing on behalf of someone else. They were asking for a woman I don’t know. When I questioned them, they said they got my number from some website enquiry but wouldn’t say what it was about, so maybe they do have a bit of an idea about data protection. I told them to take my number off their list.
