I saw a notification pop up on my iPhone indicating a 'missed call,' yet there was no actual call that came through, even with my volume cranked up to the highest level. This seems to be a recurring issue lately, as I got another questionable call just the day before. Some bloke rang me earlier claiming he was from BT, checking if everything was fine and if our broadband deal was suitable. He oddly asked why I needed broadband in the first place? Then requested the first line of my address, which I provided, but it didn’t line up with what he had. We’d renamed the house ages ago, so I figured he was working off an old address. Got a call from this number too, the person said they were from BT. When I asked where they were calling from, they said Sunderland with a Geordie accent. They wanted to send me a pin by email to prove they were legit, but I told them anyone could do that. I said I’d just ring BT myself for any upgrades. She sounded pretty convincing but I wasn’t convinced. There was loads of background noise like people chatting, which didn’t really seem like any social distancing was happening! Landline 01916719997 - A guy called Harvey saying he was with BT checking if there were any problems with my broadband due to the pandemic. He asked for my full BT password, but I refused. Then he wanted two characters from it. I gave them and he said they didn’t match, even though they were right. When I asked why he was calling from Newcastle, he said BT has multiple call centres around the UK. I said I’d rather wait for a call from their proper 0800 number, which I think is legit. He asked if he could call back since I’d had broadband troubles recently, but I told him no thanks.

Same here, got a lass from Newcastle trying to sell me an upgrade, saying I was a loyal customer and even using my name. A bloke called before sounding just like it, felt like the same dodgy scam. The number had rung me before about some BT offers, so when I called back and asked for my account info, they just kept pushing the deals and didn’t actually answer my questions. Ended the call pretty quick. My advice is always ask for your account details when they call; if they can’t give you that info, just hang up and make sure to tell them to have a rubbish Christmas!

Some lad with a Geordie accent rang up saying he was from BT, offering to upgrade our account. Proper pushy bloke, not bothering to listen when my missus said we’d just sorted an upgrade a couple of weeks ago. She immediately figured it was dodgy. He started asking about my BT account, which I told him I wasn’t responsible for, then asked for the person who is. I said they weren’t in at the moment and he said he'd ring back. Right away I suspected it wasn’t BT since they don’t just cold call like that. I’ve blocked the number now.

It took forever before she spoke, a lady with a Geordie accent claiming to be from BT, telling me I could get a new broadband router. I told her I’d already got a new one just a few weeks ago, so she hung up pretty sharpish.

Last Thursday, 12th September 2019, my landline went off and as normal I let my ansaphone pick up, it says something like: "Sorry, I can't take your call right now, please leave your name and number after the beep." But before it finished, the person just hung up. Right away, I thought this was a scam call. I’d rate it as HIGH RISK.

Got a call today around 2pm on my home phone. Caller knew my name straight away and said I was a loyal BT customer, trying to push an upgrade. I told them I was happy with my current setup but they kept pressing. Their tone started to feel a bit off after a while. They then asked for my address, which I refused to give again since they clearly had it already. I ended the call after that.

From what I can tell, this is a BT scam. Ive been getting loads of annoying calls from First Response Legal for ages now, so about a fortnight ago I bought BT’s Advanced call blocker with answer machine and put all my real contacts in it. I still look up numbers on this handy site and found it quite funny that this number is actually a BT scam! The call blocker is doing a really good job for me.

On Tuesday 30th July 2019, my landline rang. Like always, I didn’t pick up and let my ansaphone handle it, saying: "I’m unavailable right now, please leave your name and number after the beep." The moment I started this, the caller just hung up before I even finished speaking, which to me was a clear sign it was a dodgy call. I’ve been relying on my ansaphone for years now as a kind of shield against scammers of all sorts. Any legit person would leave a message, and just by hearing their voice, I can usually tell if they’re genuine or trying to pull a fast one.

Got a call from someone saying they were from BT North East about some new equipment. They knew my name and that I’m a BT Plus customer. The caller was pretty pushy and seemed aggressive. Feels like a total scam to me. Is someone at the BT call centre leaking our info?

Just got another scam call claiming to be from BT. They wanted to talk to whoever pays the bill (somehow knew my hubby’s name) and were really pushy. Had a thick Geordie accent. I told her no way, if it was really BT they’d send a letter or email, then I ended the call. These BT scam calls are just a pain and I’m curious how they’re finding out who actually pays the bills!!

Got a call and told them I had to check with my husband first. Then second time my husband just came in and took the call, they said they were from BT. I said something like “oh probably about an upgrade.” My husband was like “if it’s about that upgrade, we haven’t used it yet.” The caller suddenly got really pushy and aggressive, insisting we must have talked about it ‘cos he knew what it was for!! I actually spoke to BT afterwards and they confirmed it’s a scam. Best to stay clear of these calls.

Got a call from a woman. She seemed quite nice but I told her I wasn’t interested in upgrading. The number set off my alert! Chatted briefly but kinda wish I hadn’t, even though I didn't share any personal info. Not sure if it’s a proper scam, more like a sneaky way to make you pay for something BT would usually do for free. The number was 01916719997.

Someone rang me saying they were from BT, but the 0191 number seemed a bit dodgy. She asked if I was the BT account holder but never gave a name, which struck me as weird since BT would surely know that? She said it was about a new campaign for better “whole house” wifi for existing customers, but I’ve had emails and letters from BT about this for ages. When she wanted to know how many devices I had connected to the internet, I just ended the call. Reading what others have shared, I’m pretty relieved I did!

So today I got a call from someone claiming to be BT, but it felt dodgy. I just kept the lady talking for about 5 minutes, then told her I’d traced the number and even their voice biometric or whatever. She started stammering and then hung up. Honestly, I enjoy winding up these scam callers. Just a heads up, BT usually only ring me on 0800 numbers, so watch out. I’ve reported this number to BT and also to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

I got called twice in one week from this same number. They said my partner was with BT, now claiming they were calling from Seaham in N/E England, trying to offer a broadband upgrade. They even mentioned the last 4 digits of a BT account number to seem legit. Honestly, this feels like a scam. Don’t share any info with them. If you really want to contact BT, ring the official number listed on the BT website. Stay safe!

Last Thursday, 27th June 2019, my home phone went off around 3 in the afternoon. Like i usually do, I let my ansafone pick up and say, “Sorry, no one’s here right now, please leave your name and number after the beep.” Usually, if someone leaves a message and I know who it is, I’ll call back myself. But straight after that message started, the caller just hung up. This is how I try to keep scam calls at bay. I managed to jot down their number, 0191 671 9997, and after Googling it, found out it was definitely a scam. I hate how dangerous those dodgy scammers can be.
