Got a call from a really polite bloke pretending to be from Compare the Market, asking if I needed any help with my application. I've been a regular user of Compare the Market for ages, but never got a call like that before. Felt a bit odd to me.

If you pick up the phone, whatever you do, don’t say YES! They record that and then use it against you whenever they want. They’re just trying to catch you saying certain words as a way to keep bugging you. Better to just say something harmless like ‘banana’ or ‘rainy day’ - that way they’ve got nothing to work with!

A while back, I got a bunch of calls from India about some consumer lifestyle survey. I ignored them and stopped picking up, and those calls actually stopped for a good few months. Now, out of nowhere, the same number has started ringing again. I've even blocked it, but they keep trying. I found out that this number is linked to Sanako Service Ltd, which is registered in the Marshall Islands. They seem to be behind several businesses like finvestings.com and monkeyvacation.com, which is a new rental holiday scam. Other sites connected include finvesting.net, coin-mining-farm.com, riveraammunition.com, and mindmining.com. Looks like a bunch of dodgy companies all tied together.

He seemed confused when I told him he’d got the wrong person, then I asked for his name and he just said it didn’t matter. Definitely a scam, so watch out!

Got a missed call but no voicemail or message left behind, which is odd for a legit company - they’d normally leave their info to call back. Pretty sure it’s dodgy, so I blocked the number. When I rang it back, an automated voice said it was from Consumer Lifestyles about some lifestyle survey. I hung up straight away. Those surveys are risky; they often trick you into giving personal details so scammers can get hold of them.

I’ve got no one to fault but myself, really. I made the mistake of putting my phone number on a dodgy trading site. Almost immediately-like just a few minutes later-I was bombarded with seven persistent calls from this number. Lesson learned, I suppose!

The weirdest call I've had by far. This really polite guy with a nice way of speaking asked me if I was open-minded and had cash to put into something. Got me curious for a sec. Turns out, he wanted to sell me shares in some kind of online adult entertainment company. Had to decline that one!
