10 yearsThe other day, I received a call that piqued my interest.12 yearsI had a rather dubious phone call from a chap named 'Glen Anderson' claiming to represent 'Windows'. His accent was distinctly Indian, and he attempted to con me with the same old trick. He insisted that my 'software warranty' had lapsed and that my computer was on the brink of disaster, ready to implode any second. For a fee of £159, he promised me a renewed three-year warranty. After I'd paid up, he claimed he would begin remedying my computer issues. In a moment of foolishness, I allowed him remote access to my machine. He executed a so-called 'inf trojan virus' which, rather conveniently, displayed files that were supposedly indicative of my computer's grave condition. He inquired if I recognised any of these files, but of course, I was none the wiser. This was presented as irrefutable evidence of my computer’s peril. However, I soon lost patience and disconnected from him. Following that, I carried out a thorough virus scan and was alarmed to find a 'back door virus' lurking there. I suspect they installed that as a fail-safe in case their initial scam fell through. Curious, I looked up the phone number and found it linked to a site based in India, complete with nonsensical testimonials written in Latin: webduple.in.
