Got a call from someone trying to trick me into renewing a drain cover that supposedly expired. When they asked for my mum’s maiden name as a sort of password, I was like no way - I never give that info because scammers can easily dig it up. I always go for tougher passwords with a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols like £ or % or #, depending on what the site lets me use (some only accept letters and numbers though). Definitely avoid obvious stuff like birthdays or maiden names, they’re way too easy for crooks to guess.

This bloke called himself Alex and said he was from Protect You, something to do with plumbing and drainage insurance. He claimed our policy wasn't active, but we don't even have one with that company! Pretty dodgy if you ask me.
