Oh, without a doubt, I’ve been plagued by a couple of calls from these nuisances! I can’t help but ponder if their origin is tied to that new search platform aimed at sourcing budget-friendly energy providers. Furthermore, I’m beginning to suspect there might be a connection to those “employment agencies” which seem to peddle job opportunities. Given that I recently interacted with the said search engine, sharing my phone number and email, it’s plausible that they could be inundating me with promotional emails from various addresses highlighting job listings!

Got a robocall asking if I'd been in an accident? I didn’t reply with yes or no, just asked ‘How do you know?’ The voice said, ‘Thanks for confirming, we’ll take your number off our list.’ Seems like they use a machine to catch ‘yes’ replies, then some actual person rings back to push a claim. If a person made these calls directly, loads would say no and it’d get tedious, so they send the bot out first. I’ve blocked the number anyway!

On the evening of July 12, 2017, at precisely 18:53, I received a rather peculiar call. The caller inquired about my supposed involvement in a car accident, which was rather alarming. Quite the mystery, if you ask me!

Definitely seems like a scam to me, but I’ve got it sorted with the Android Blacklist App, which also throws back those annoyingly daft withheld numbers. It’s best to keep your mobile number close to your chest when dealing with businesses and banks, they really don’t require it unless they’re trying to get something from you.

I didn’t pick up but it was a cold call anyway. My phone number is signed up with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), so if I do answer next time, I plan to follow their rules to lodge a complaint. The TPS process says: To use this free service, your number must have been on the TPS/CTPS list for at least 28 days. The call you complain about has to be an actual unsolicited marketing call where you spoke live with the caller who was trying to sell something. You also need to give at least the company name and/or the phone number, plus the date and time the call happened.

I humoured them for a bit, figured they thought I was an easy target, but as soon as they started asking for my bank details, I stopped. When I questioned them how I could be sure they were legit and not just con artists and where they’d got my info from, they had no answer. Proper waste of their time, but I enjoyed messing around with them a bit. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour!

I called my wife's phone a couple times today. I like picking up those calls myself. I always play along and tell them about a crash I had many years back, but when they want details about the injuries, I go into some really graphic stuff. They usually ask how I’m coping or if there’s any permanent damage, then I drop the bomb that I was actually pronounced dead right there. Apparently, the ambulance team showed up too late to save me. Give it a go yourself - you’ll laugh so hard when they hang up on you!
