I reckon this was probably a phishing attempt. A guy rang claiming to be from some Residential Green Standards Centre, offering free surveys for lofts because apparently 'older' insulation like rockwool and glass fibre can cause mould. The voice sounded really polished and it answered my questions in a way that seemed quite believable, but it kept using the same phrases with the same tone. When I mentioned it sounded like a robot, he said sorry and claimed he was new and just reading from a script - but honestly, the intonation was exactly the same on every repeated answer. So, I’m almost certain it was some kind of AI, although there’s a tiny chance it could’ve been a real person.

At about 5.17pm on the 22nd of March, I got a cold call from someone rambling on about loft insulation.
