Today, I unfortunately fell victim to a scam from this number. They’ve taken £4,000 from me, and while I know I’m not an idiot, I can't help but feel rather foolish right now. Got a call around 10.30 and all I heard was "This is HMR." From what I've dealt with HMRC, they dont usually ring you up like that. Even if they've started doing it, I doubt they’d be that careless. On the 2nd of November 2018, at precisely 8:34 in the morning, my mobile rang with a call from this number. I opted not to pick up. An automated voice left a message urging either myself or my solicitor to reach out to Officer Claire Williams at HMRC, using the number 0186 560 0913. They stressed that it was urgent and not to be disregarded. Frankly, I find this a revolting effort by those buffoons who prey upon the unsuspecting. I got a call from this number claiming to be HMRC, trying to scare me into handing over my bank info and paying up. It’s a total scam, don’t fall for it! HMRC would never ring you out of the blue asking for money or your bank details. They also wouldn’t ask for that stuff through email. I’ve reported it to the police and HMRC are looking into it now. Whatever you do, keep your details safe and if you get a call like this, report it straight away at www.actionfraud.police.uk or call 0300 123 2040. Safe to say, this is dodgy and should be ignored.

Got a call on my landline around 8.20 this morning. My son’s just had surgery, so we get visits from the district nurses daily, and they usually ring too. I thought it might be them or the doctors, so I hit 1471 and then just pressed 3. A man with an Indian accent answered, claiming he was from customs and excise! I told him I must have got it wrong because they only call mobiles. After I mentioned 1471, he said he must have rung the wrong number by mistake.

Totally a con. Got a voicemail from some robot with a US accent saying they were from HMRC, but they called from a number HMRC wouldn’t use for me. Like others have said, they try to scare you with threats but their English is really rubbish, so I’m guessing it’s a scam from abroad. Honestly, it’s a classic scam move.
