I’ve been caught out by this scammer, and what a right farce it turned out to be! Just like a jester, we were taken for a ride and even went so far as to give our card information away. I know, I know, it was a proper daft move, but it all sounded convincing - especially with our computer dragging its heels! These chaps seemed to have all the right answers. Thankfully, we spotted this alert and promptly cancelled our credit card, so we’re safe as houses. Our web scam insurance will keep us from losing any dosh. It’s shocking how utterly devoid of integrity these people are. The details mentioned by Miller back in December 2010 were eerily exactly the same as what we fell for.

Received an unwelcome call from an international number. The chap on the line had a thick Indian accent and claimed there were issues with our Windows computer, insisting we needed to call in to get rid of some viruses. He introduced himself as a "Microsoft certified partner" and mentioned he was contacting us on behalf of the Windows company. When we asked for the number he was calling from, he simply told us to ring their helpline at 0186 5600 898. It felt very dodgy. Stay alert, everyone!

Absolutely a scam, without a doubt. We’ve reported this number to the authorities, specifically the FBI. They’ll be looking into the company behind it.

Today, my mum received a rather dubious call from this number, and it appears they’ve concocted a new trick up their sleeve. The caller purporting to be from the FTC, claimed they were informed of my mum's past run-ins with scams, alluding to some alleged triumphs by Microsoft in dismantling a number of Botnets. They even mentioned a compensation programme set up to refund her previous losses. He then proceeded to instruct her to "turn on her computer." At this point, my mum firmly decided to end the conversation, insisting she needed to consult her son-me, of course. I instantly recognised it for what it was, a scam, but it feels particularly nefarious considering they’re now targeting those they’ve already victimised. Just a heads up to everyone out there.
