Got a call from someone claiming to be from our energy provider. Took them quite a while to actually say which company it was when I asked. They said there was some confusion with another property’s supply and they needed to check our MPAN number as they couldn’t enter the meter reading right. Seemed like an Indian call centre to me.

I got a call from someone saying they were from my current energy company, saying there was a problem with my meter readings that had to be fixed before they sent out the next bill. The bloke sounded a bit lost and didn’t know who exactly he should be talking to or if he’d already spoken to anyone on my end. I reckon it was just another spam call because as soon as I said I couldn’t give him the name of anyone he needed to speak with, he ended the call straight away.

So I got a call from a woman claiming to be from Engie, asking to talk to someone in Accounts. Since we've been having trouble with our meter readings recently, I wasn’t too alarmed at first, thinking it was a follow-up from customer service. She mentioned there was a problem with the postcode on our account and asked me to check an invoice and verify our account and meter numbers. When I asked why she needed that info if she already had it, she just ended the call. Pretty sure it was a scam.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Octopus Energy, said there was a mistake with my meter readings and that I was due a refund. They asked for my bank details and even wanted the serial numbers on my meters. Sounded really dodgy, like they were trying to switch my energy supply without permission. Total scam, don’t hand over any info to them!

Just like others said, got a call from someone pretending to be British Gas and Eon all at once. They kept insisting I pay £2,000 or they’d switch off my meter remotely. I told the lady on the phone, who sounded like she was probably in India using some voip thing, that it was clearly a scam. She didn’t take it well and told me to f**k off.

Just like others said, someone called saying they worked for British Gas and EON all at once, threatening to cut the meter off if I didn't pay £2000 straight away. I was talking to a woman, probably from India using some voip system. I told her it was clearly a scam, and she told me to f*** off. Couldn't have been any more obvious!

Got a call earlier from someone saying they were with SSE, saying something was wrong with our meter number. When I asked a few questions, the first person handed me over to their “manager” who started asking about when my contract finished and stuff. They couldn’t tell me my account number either, so I said I’d hang up but they kept talking over me trying to get info. Eventually I just cut off and blocked the number. Total scam for sure.

Got a call from someone who sounded like they were in a call centre overseas, claiming we owed money on an energy bill. Thing is, we rent the place and the landlord sorts that out, not us. I checked out the number and loads of people said it’s a scam. When I mentioned that to her, she just told me to f**k off. Real classy, that one.

Got a ring from 01865 589156 - the person said they were calling from Eon, making sure they had the right info since they took over npower. They said they were double checking our bills to see if we’d been overcharged due to a wrong postcode. I ended up spending nearly an hour on the phone giving them details of all our contracts and bills. Felt off when they called back today, so I looked up the number and saw others had left similar warnings.

Got a call from someone claiming to be British Gas, telling me we’d been overcharged because a meter reader apparently put in the wrong postcode from a different company. They asked me to double-check the postcode on my bill, which was right, then said they’d fix it by not charging us for gas in February - even tho we have the actual February bill! While I was still on the call, I googled the number and found out it’s a scam. British Gas never rings you about stuff like this; they’d simply adjust any mistake on the following bill. I blocked the number straight away.

Someone rang me pretending to be from British Gas asking to speak to the accounts dept. Since I handle that area, I was suspicious straight away because British Gas has told me they wouldn’t call us directly. They kept going on about an issue with the last meter reading and the postcode not matching up. I just told them I knew they weren’t really from BG and I wasn’t going to give out any info. Then I politely ended the call. Definitely a con artist trying it on.

Someone phoned me saying they were from BT about a refund for a wrong bill. They mentioned bits from my latest invoice but most of the info they gave was incorrect. Even though BT can see everything on their system, they kept insisting I give them more details about the bill. I told them just to send me an email with the info but the caller kept ringing back instead. Nearly certain it’s a scam, best to steer clear.

She was quite knowledgeable about my business account and insisted that I was being charged for the electricity usage of my neighbour. I have to say, it’s a complete ruse. Stay vigilant, as they’re fishing for your contract details to peddle to others.
