I made a donation via text and then got a call from them. I told them not to get in touch again but they still sent me a message saying it would cost over £2 to stop the messages. I only donated £3 in the first place! Now they’re still ringing me even after charging me to be taken off their list. No way am I giving them any money again!!!

I’m in the same boat. I donated to water aid thinking it’d all go to the cause, but then callers started ringing me up, which I reckon is just the money going on staff trying to get more donations. I’m retired and don’t even pay tax, so it’s a bit annoying. This kind of thing really puts me off giving next time. They really ought to let people choose if they want to be contacted about gift aid when they donate.

I donated to Oxfam a few days ago and this number has rung me up twice already. They never leave a voicemail, so I looked the number up online. Turns out it’s from Oxfam. When they texted me to confirm my donation, they also explained how to stop any future messages if I only wanted to give once. I replied with the opt-out message as instructed, but they ended up charging me more than a regular text to send that opt-out reply.

I didn’t pick up as I didn’t recognise the number, but I remembered I’d sent a donation to Oxfam recently, so it fits with what others have been saying here. Now I kinda wish I hadn’t donated, because it feels like I’m going to keep getting hassled by them, probably because they think I’m an easy target. Why can’t folks just donate and be left alone afterwards? It’s annoying. Makes me wonder if they actually pay people to ring us up like this, which is a bit ironic since the money I gave was meant to help with water projects. If you pay tax in the UK and donate to charity, Gift Aid basically lets the charity claim a bit extra from the government. So your donation goes further without costing you anything more. Honestly, there’s no harm in adding Gift Aid when you give, it just helps the charity get a bit more out of your kindness.

Should I choose to support a charitable cause, I certainly will. However, I have no desire to be inundated with phone calls from other organisations pleading for further donations. After receiving three calls from this number alone, I’m seriously reconsidering my willingness to contribute to any television-based charities in the future.

These days, if I don’t know the number calling, I just let it go to answerphone. I figure if it's something important, they’ll leave a message. Otherwise, it’s probably just a scammer, a telemarketer trying to sell me stuff I don’t need, or some pointless survey that’s likely dodgy anyway.

Had a call from this number earlier today but I didn’t pick up since it wasn’t in my contacts. I usually look up unknown numbers online first before bothering to answer. The only thing I saw was a comment saying “No response when answered.” I reckon it might be one of those charity calls - I get loads of them since I usually donate to charities via text. I just keep track by naming them Charity #1, #2, and so on, then give them a miss when they ring. Looks like this will go down as Charity #21, haha.
