On Tuesday I received the very same message. It started with a pretty scary line, something like "Prepare for legal action," which honestly felt quite intimidating. But then it ended with "Goodbye and take care," which just came off as silly after such a serious warning.

Avoid picking up this number, it’s definitely a scam. Just block it and don’t bother with the scary message saying you must ring HMRC straight away.

Got a voicemail supposedly from "HMRC" telling me to ring them back but only if I have a lawyer with me. Felt a bit dodgy to me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be William Reid from the HMRC Legal Fraud team - he even gave me a badge number, 89681! Left a voicemail at first, then called back on the same number. He told me there was an ongoing investigation about unpaid taxes. Weirdly enough, I’d actually rung HMRC earlier this morning myself. Didn’t sound quite right to me.

I got a call like that too. HMRC wouldn't usually finish a phone chat by saying 'take care' like that. I reckon they might slap on a huge fee if you ring them back.

Got a call from supposed HMRC fraudsters. I ignored it and blocked the number straight away. They left a voicemail which sounded exactly like the ones others have mentioned here.
