Received a lengthy call regarding some dodgy files and potential threats. They insisted I needed to access my account through a service called LogMeIn. I wasn't having any of it, so I turned them down.

Received a call from this number the other day at quite an awkward hour. Thankfully, we didn’t jump to conclusions thinking it was someone from overseas or anything. As soon as we rang back using 1471, we discovered the number was 0120305193, and it’s rather alarming to see how many complaints are stacked up against it in the directory. We’ve decided that on the next occasion this happens, we won’t hesitate to escalate the matter to the authorities.

Extremely insistent and quite persuasive. The accent had a South Asian lilt to it, and they were using an English-sounding name to push a warranty.

We're quite worried that we're being taken for a ride! It's really weighing on our minds during dinner, especially with all these tech issues at play. Now, we're trying to sort out a refund, but who knows when that will come through. Honestly, we feel a bit foolish about the whole situation!

25th May 2010, 11:45 a.m. - Just had another rather dubious call, or whatever you fancy calling it. They claimed to know we had a persistent error message appearing or that our device was possibly lagging. The conversation shifted to customer support for XP, Vista, and Windows 7, clearly trying to lend the impression they were affiliated with Microsoft. When we mentioned we couldn’t chat at that moment but would ponder it later, they gave us this number. Quite the routine, isn't it?

The call I received was definitely a scam; I strongly urge you not to engage with this individual. They’ll try to manipulate you into performing various actions on your computer and then claim there are issues that require a £60 payment to 'upgrade' your software security warranty. They falsely purport to be from Microsoft-let me make it clear, this is utterly untrue. Microsoft will never reach out to anyone via phone. The number they provided was 0186 5521065, and I’m quite relieved that we looked it up and uncovered this deceitful scheme.

Allegedly, it’s something linked to Windows assistance and is meant to boost your file download speeds.

We’ve had a rather similar experience lately. A person, claiming to be Eric Jones, managed to get us to log into our computer. They directed us to the computer management section and pointed out loads of warning and error messages. Has anyone else encountered something like this before?

Recently, I received a phone call from this number, and I must say, it felt completely dodgy. The caller had a thick foreign accent and couldn't answer any of our questions straight. They claimed to be someone named Peter Jones, but I highly doubt that’s accurate. We ended the call pretty quickly and felt a wave of relief afterwards. Please, do yourself a favour and look up the number before engaging; steer clear of these chancers at all costs!

We received a call from a bloke with a foreign accent claiming to be "Jack Smith" from Microsoft Technical Support. Thankfully, we decided to investigate the number, and it turned out to be a dodgy scheme! It's quite comical, really-Microsoft would never reach out like that, especially not with names like "Jack Smith" or "John Smith". What a laugh!

Apparently, it’s linked to Windows support and is meant to assist in speeding up your file downloads.

I received a call from this company regarding our computer issues and initially, it seemed quite authentic. However, I quickly realised that something was off after the conversation. How naïve we were to think it was all above board! Be careful of what they say from the outset; they lead you to believe they're affiliated with Oxford and are acting on behalf of Microsoft Windows.

Has anyone got any tips on how to navigate out of this scam I've unfortunately got caught up in?

I received a rather convincing call that was supposedly from Microsoft Windows Support, claiming to follow up on numerous error messages I had received on my computer. Given that my device feels like it's on the brink of a complete meltdown, the caller assured me they would guide me through the necessary steps to resolve the issues (and likely a myriad of others too). Interestingly, she mentioned she was based in Oxfordshire, yet the call appeared to be from overseas. When I requested a contact number to return the call, they were rather hesitant to provide one. It’s best to steer clear of such calls!

Received a call just the other day, and it couldn't have come at a more troublesome moment. Thankfully, we were wary of the Indian or Pakistani number. So, we decided to give Alex a shout. Once we called 1471, the number showed up as 012030519993, and it's not hard to see why there's a fair share of complaints about it. Next time, we'll definitely let them know we're taking this to the authorities.

I'm quite worried that we've fallen for this! They cornered us during our dinner time, pushing us to purchase their tech support services! Now we're trying to get a refund, but who knows when that will happen. It all feels rather foolish on our part!

Exercise caution with these phone calls; the individuals behind them are quite convincing. I'm curious if anyone has any guidance on how to extricate oneself after falling prey to such a ruse?

Regrettably, we found ourselves in a bit of a predicament last night; our computer has been extremely sluggish, and it seems our Norton subscription is up for renewal. It’s clear that these individuals have somehow gained entry into our system. Has anyone else experienced any fraudulent activity after finding themselves in a similar situation?
