got a call recently from a guy with a kinda American twang. he said he was with talktalk, even knew my name. we went like this: "hello?" "hello." "is this mr yes?" "are you with talktalk?" "nah, mate, i’m from the windows tech team." "oh, so that’s a different scam altogether then." (pause) "a different scam, huh? well, you’re quite clever." ha ha ha. then he just hung up. annoying and a waste of time, but not rude at least.

The line was crackling and then the person on the other end asked if the homeowner was there by name. When I calmly explained she wasn’t available, he just started swearing at me, telling me to “f### off” over and over. I just ended the call and blocked the number.

I got a call from a woman claiming to be Karen, sounded like she was from India or Pakistan, saying she had some info about a car crash I was in. I joked back, saying oh yeah, that’s the one that got me sent straight up to heaven! She replied that since that’s the case, she's entitled to pay me £6283 compensation, according to her own maths. Then she asked for my bank details and credit card info to sort it out. I told her I live way up in the clouds, but if she’s after money, there’s a riverbank somewhere that holds all my daily earnings - she can go claim it there!

I've been receiving these bothersome calls that leave me frustrated, as there’s never anyone on the other end when I pick up. It’s really starting to wear me down, especially as a pensioner trying to enjoy some peace. I've registered with the telephone preference service, but alas, it seems to have little effect. Does anyone have any tips on how I might put an end to this?
