Concerns Raised Over Suspicious Phone Number 01838440006

The phone number 01838440006 has become a topic of growing concern among the public after numerous complaints were posted about its suspicious nature. Individuals from various backgrounds have reported receiving phone calls, and many believe these are part of an ongoing scam.

A Range of Claims

Comments regarding the number reveal a variety of claims. Several individuals reported that the callers identify themselves as being from "Sky", claiming issues related to television insurance and maintenance. One individual noted a conversation with a caller who insisted their TV insurance was due for renewal. “I told him I wasn't interested and hung up,” they mentioned, illustrating the frustration many feel. Another caller, who had an elderly relative contacted by the same number, expressed anger after her mother was manipulated into giving out bank details. “I had to cancel her card immediately,” they stated, reflecting how seriously these incidents can impact people’s lives.

British citizens receiving these calls feel that the intentions behind them are far from genuine. One person mentioned they received multiple calls from the number, saying, “I have Sky, but assumed it was a scam at outset, as Sky normally write to market their insurance.” The caller’s persistent approach and the type of questions they ask tend to raise red flags.

A Pattern of Silence

Interestingly, a number of commentaries suggest that many callers didn't say anything at all. People reported silence during the line connections, followed by an abrupt hang-up. “Caller hung up when I answered,” was a sentiment echoed repeatedly, leading to frustration and speculation that these calls are simply intended to waste time or gather information.

Perceived Threats

Further complicating matters, some comments suggest attempts to gather personal information extend beyond television coverage. Allegations that callers have posed as HMRC officers demanding unpaid taxes emerged. One person recounted how the caller threatened a court case over an alleged unpaid tax. Such tactics heighten the feeling of threat among those targeted. As one individual bluntly suggested, "Scammer saying from HMRC about unpaid tax,” highlighting the fear and confusion that accompanies these unsolicited phone calls.

Reactions from the Public

The response from the public varies significantly. While some individuals found the calls amusing enough to laugh off — “I laughed as I don't have Sky,” one user reported — others expressed a more serious concern about the potential implications for those who mistakenly believe these callers. The revelation that scammers are preying on vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, sparked outrage among the community. “They’re trying to get you to set up a direct debit for TV insurance, which doesn’t exist,” one commentator asserted, further indicating how deep the deception could go.

The Need for Awareness

What stands out most from this commentary is the clear signal for increased awareness surrounding suspicious calls. Individuals are now more informed thanks to shared experiences in comments, helping to expose fraud. A user pointed out the effectiveness of new call blocking technologies, saying, “That’s the best 24 quid I've ever spent in Curry's — peace and quiet at last.”

Conclusion

As awareness about the number 01838440006 spreads, it is clear that the series of complaints reflects a larger concern regarding scam calls targeting the public. The phenomenon of unsolicited calls, particularly those that manipulate or trick individuals into revealing personal data, must be taken seriously. It is essential that people remain vigilant and share their experiences to help protect themselves and others. If you receive a call from this number, exercise caution and remember the advice: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Received a call claiming to be from the Citizens Advice Bureau regarding some outstanding debts that I supposedly owe. I’m really finding this hard to believe and suspect it could be a scam.

I didn’t recognise the caller’s number, so I chose to let it ring through to voicemail, but they didn’t bother to leave a message. After glancing at some of the comments, it seems I made a wise choice—what a bunch of rotters!

I didn't get a word out; I just stood there in silence after picking up the call. They didn’t utter anything either and then just disconnected. Quite odd, really!

Really annoying caller! They ignored my answering machine and hung up as soon as it started recording. What a waste!

Received a call at half past one this afternoon, but they didn’t bother leaving a message. I've been inundated with calls all week, each time from unknown numbers, but today was the first time I got one that wasn’t withheld. I'm beginning to think they might all be coming from the same place.

Initially, I thought it was a con, as Sky usually contacts us through letters for their insurance offers. It's been quite enlightening to see others sharing their experiences. There's no question that it could be quite perilous, considering its apparent aim is to deceive.

I received a phone call from a chap with an Indian accent claiming to represent Sky. When I informed him that I don't subscribe to their services, he promptly backtracked and denied being affiliated with them at all. Clearly, it was a dodgy attempt to pull a fast one. I wrapped up the conversation with a curt farewell—best to cut ties with such nonsense!

Received a call purporting to be from Sky regarding some insurance. The thing is, I've never been a Sky customer, so it's clearly a scam.

Received a call earlier today, but to my delight, they didn’t even manage to get past my newly installed call-blocking phone. It’s a bit dodgy, if you ask me. I purchased the BT Decor 2600 with TrueCall for a mere £24 at Curry's, and it’s hands down the best money I've ever spent! Finally enjoying some tranquility at home, much to my wife's relief!

The line quality was dreadful, making it a struggle to grasp what they were saying. They mentioned something like "your application?" but it was all rather muddled and unfamiliar to me. I replied that I hadn't a clue what they were going on about, and then, without another word, they just terminated the call! Quite baffling really!

Some chancer rang me up claiming I had to renew my television insurance. When I queried which telly she meant, she suddenly switched to talking about my remote, cables, and the like. I pressed her again, asking which TV she was on about—I've got five of the blighters, though I might’ve stretched the truth a bit there! She didn't take kindly to that and promptly hung up the phone. Classic scam!

Got a cheeky insurance pitch from this lot – well, they wanted me to fork out £160 for two years of cover. Quite the bargain, eh? They were also pushing a television repair scheme. I thought it wise to grab a pen and jot down a little reminder before I handed over my bank info: Foxtrot, Uniform, Charlie, Kilo – Oscar, Foxtrot, Foxtrot.

I've just received a rather dubious call from this number, where the bloke claimed to be affiliated with "Sky Maintenance"… right, as if! 😆 When I pressed him on the legitimacy of his claim, I expressed my suspicions that he was part of some scam operation, likely one of those dodgy ones based in India, which I've seen numerous exposes on via YouTube. He had the audacity to label me a racist, to which I swiftly countered that I hadn’t uttered a single racial slur. I made it clear that the geographic location of many of these scam factories being primarily in India is merely a fact, and really, it could be based in the North Pole for all I care. In any case, I informed him that I had zero trust in his words and suggested he could send me a letter instead… not that I expect to be waiting by the post box any time soon. 😆

He claimed to be from Sky Assurance, stating that they were the new overlords of Sky Protect and that they no longer offer a monthly direct debit option. Instead, I was told I had to cough up either for a whole year or pay for two years in advance right then and there, or else I’d be slapped with an £89 fee for cancelling. I promptly hung up and reached out to Sky Protect directly. It’s undoubtedly a con, as any genuine communication from them would be documented in writing regarding any changes.

This number is linked to a fraudster masquerading as an HMRC official. He's quite aggressive and impolite, making threats to those he contacts. It’s clear he’s not from around here, as his strong foreign accent and poor command of English are quite noticeable.

I've got a hunch that this caller might be up to no good, particularly given the telecom provider they used and the potentially fabricated address in Scotland. I didn’t manage to pick up, but the number itself has all the hallmarks of something dodgy.
